Default Seiko to Release Their First Bluetooth Watch

http://www.akihabaranews.com/en/new...ooth+watch.html

"This watch is in fact an extension of your phone, and you'll be able (at first) to play around with the volume of the ringtone of your phone. It can also alert you when you have an SMS or email, and it can display the number and the name of the person that is calling you. Finally, it will also alert you when the Bluetooth connection between the watch and phone is broken, so you won't forget your phone anymore."

Okay, I know. This watch is FREAKIN' HUGE!! 8O But the concept behind this watch is pretty darn innovative. Of course, this would be yet another device that you'll need to "recharge" on a regular basis, but I believe they do have a value proposition with this watch. Seiko is scheduled to release this sometime late this year or early next year. So what do you guys think? Is this something you'd be interested (if the form-factor were smaller)? Give us your thoughts!

Cool concept, but it definitely screams "ubergeek". I mean, I'm the first person to admit I'm a geek, but this is akin to yelling it from the rooftops.

If they were able to make a nice digital/analog combo bluetooth watch that is not made for King Kong, then I'd consider it ;-)

Whoever said "bigger is better" may want to add an addendum to that... Love the styling and I think it's a great idea. But, they'll have to cut the thickness by at least 70% and width by about 30%. Bummer, I think it's a really cool style. Retro yet modern.

You should check out the video... The model looks like your typical, tiny Asian female type. When she displays the watch on her wrist, it makes the watch look even bigger. It looks like having an Atom strapped to your wrist.

When I saw her operating the watch, it reminded me of Blade Runner, Dick Tracy or maybe even 'The Empire Strikes Back'. It can be so cool if they made it smaller....

Oh, the thoughts of osteoporotic men and women snapping their wrists from this behemoth.

Beyond that, I think that you would be able to see this watch on somebodies wrist much further away than you could hear them.

The idea of a watch showing the caller ID for a phone is great but with this particular device, why not just strap the phone to your wrist?

I actually think that this watch doubles as a splint

It really requires you to see the watch on the wrist next to the PDA phone to see that this thing is really, really, really big. I looks like its about the same dimensions as the screen on my 2125 and a little bit thicker. Wow...
it's still a great idea though. Hope it comes out smaller and thinner when it's finally introduced. If it was able to like to a smart phone through a pocket controller -type interface you could keep the phone in the your pocket or brief case and use the watch for everything put making and receiving calls. Then, I'd buy it in an instant.

Reminds me of the MSN watches that were hot for a few days. Big, clunky, needs constant recharging, but has a certain geek-a-tude.

It sounds really useful, but like everyone else I'd never wear something that size.
