Default Commodore... Now Into Mobile Gaming!?

http://brighthand.com/article/Commo...r_Mobile_Gaming

"Commodore Gaming plans to introduce public kiosks that will allow users to load games onto their mobile phones. These will be introduced into mobile phone and game retailers across Europe later this year."

For the older fogeys like me, we fondly remember the days of the PET, C64, Amiga, and brethren. (Well, not if you ever had to deal with the torture known as realigning a 1541 disk drive.) It seems Commodore has fallen a long, long way. Quite frankly, I don't see how the brand is effectively being used here, and unless they manage to carve out a niche, I'm expecting this version of Commodore to go out of business too. :| The Register has a skeptical analysis, including a brief look at the company's history.

I freely admit, in fact boast, that I'm an old fogey! My first computer was a C64 with the abysmally slow tape loader. I remenber tediously typing in machine code programs from the Compute Gazette! magazine, only to find it rarely worked. The 1541 drive I learned to realign, then drill the stepper motor and break off the drill bit to use as a roll-pin to keep the thing from going out of alignment again. I then upgraded to a C128, with 2 1571 (3.5") drives, then went all out and spent $900 on a Lt. Kernal 20MB hard drive. I ran a very popular BBS on that for a few years before switching tothe dark side and buying an IBM clone.

Ah, the good old days!h

Compute Gazzette! That brings back memories, learned more from that magazine that any other source. Wish we had something of that caliber for today's computers. I saved every issue and re-read on occasion and still learned more. When I finally sold my C64 in 1992 (hard to belive I used it for that long), the collection of Compute Gazzettes made the value of the package worth so much more.

Time for the old man to take his nap now!

Hah! Yes, the days of Gazette and BYTE (the latter more for 8086, of course). Need I say more than PEEKs, POKEs, and Sprites? :P
