Viewable Screen Area of the Pocket LOOX T810/T830
Image from Pocket PC Italia.
I don't know about you, but I find that empty space surrounding the screen's viewable area a little larger than normal - especially for a mobile device. A prototype defect or the real deal? :?

As I told Darius before, I'm not impressed. A 240x240 device should not be this long, and the border, if real, suggests that the engineering could have been better.

i'm almost sure that the final version of the T830 is not gonna have these huge borders. i mean, this is fujitsu-siemens, and they have a history of being great PocketPC makers. also, here's a picture of the device without the borders:
just because there was one prototype unit at 3GSM that had those ugly borders, doesn't mean the final version, which will be released 5 months from now, will have the same issue.
also, notice how smaller the actual size of the T830's display is, compared to the hp 6900 even though both devices have the same number of pixels. that only means that you are gonna get crispier looking images on the T830.
all in all, i'm looking forward to this device, so thanks for posting about it!!

I believe that's also a rendering, so it's not really the best of all guides.

Right. Only time will tell - hence why I queried whether it was a prototype defect or the real deal. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Thats good, because if the screen is like that on the final model, it just simply looks crap.
Personally I think the device looks crap anyway. Its just too big considering that it has a square screen.

Yup. It has excellent capabilities (no other phone supports EDGE and UMTS at the same time, for example), but its size is just on the verge of not being acceptable.

Personally while the T8xx/Treo form factor does little for me (I prefer my Wizard), specs-wise it is far away better than the Treo/HP competition, and while noticably longer, it is also noticably thinner.

Don't be too sure. Remember the Treo 600's from Palm? Not only was there huge wasted border space, but the screen was off-centered. The right black border was much larger than the left due to "engineering issues". Never underestimate a company's potential to be stupid

Size!
I checked this out at 3GSM last week. The border issue is real, and from what I was told, final. The thing is freaking HUGE, too! I was really blown away (in a bad way) by the size of this beast.
