Default TDS Announces Windows Mobile 5.0 for the Ranger 300X and 500X

http://www.tdsway.com/products/ranger

"Tripod Data Systems (TDS) today announced its popular TDS Ranger rugged handheld computer features the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 platform. The new operating system offers additional features, improved reliability, and modern developer support and tools. The Ranger provides users with the latest handheld computer technology in a rugged form factor, helping them work more productively in the field... Windows Mobile 5.0, which replaces Windows Mobile 2003 in the Ranger, supports numerous additional features that improve efficiency and reliability. Comprehensive persistent storage eliminates the need for a RAM file system or Sprite Backup."

Hmm, I'm not sure I can agree with TDS' last statement in the quoted paragraph. While Windows Mobile 5.0's persistent storage feature offers a lot of benefits, I can't see it negating the need for a backup application such as Sprite Backup or Spb Backup.

Random comment aside, it's good to see TDS bringing their rugged handhelds in line with the industry standard. The Windows Mobile 5.0-based versions of both the Ranger 300X and 500X sport the same specifications as the first generation series that was introduced in mid-July 2005, and they'll begin shipping later this month.
