Brighthand Provides a Sneak Peek into the Access Netfront v3.4
"Access. Co., Ltd., the company that now controls the destiny of the Palm OS, has taken the wraps off the next version of its web browser. With NetFront 3.4, this company is expanding the functionality of this application. It's no longer just a web browser -- with the help of plug-ins, it can also be used to view a wide variety of document types, like Adobe PDF, Office documents, Flash, and video."
For most anyone serious about internet browsing on a Windows Mobile device, Pocket IE just falls woefully short. The most popular enhancements or alternatives that I've seen are Pocket Plus, MultiIE, or NetFront (and if you have a VGA screen, you'll can combine any one of those with the likes of SE_VGA for a more PC-like experience). Unlike Pocket Plus or MultiIE, NetFront is a full browser replacement and probably the most technically advanced one available. If you're a current NetFront user or are intrigued with improving your web browsing experience, hop on over the Brighthand for Ed Hardy's brief description of what's to come in v3.4.

"NetFront 3.4 will be available at the end of March."
????
Access hasn't even released 3.3 yet - they're still at Technical Preview 1.04... How come they want to release 3.4 THAT early?!

Yeah... a lot of emphasis on the word "peek"... perhaps a better descriptor would be a "10-second overview".

Uhmmm, this is weird. V3.3 for VGA/PocketPC is still in Beta/ release candidate. Be great if they release this before v3.4, huh. I think Ed's article is talking about the v3.4 engine being released in March, not specific platform versions. The PPC version is a ways off since v3.3 is still in pre-release (as it has for 6 mos+)
From their Japan HQ homepage:
NetFront v3.3(Rel 1.04) for Pocket PC Technical Preview UPDATE! [2006.01.31]
UPDATE (Rel1.04) until February 28th, 2006
We have started free download of Technical Preview version.
Try the latest version of v3.3 before formal release!

He may have meant the SDK? (Remember the case with the NetFront 3.2 (or, was it 3.3?) SDK way back when still version 3.1 was current and no signs of 3.2/3.3 were to be seen? Then, many people mistook the SDK for the actual browser.)

If Access takes as long to test and deliver Palm-linux as they do for each release of their flagship browser, I'd guess it till be 2009 before we see an upgrade to Garnet.

Huh?
Just to be clear, in this article I didn't say anything about a sneak and/or peek. Access announced some details on the next version of NetFront and I reported on it.
That's it.
