HP United States Offering the... iPAQ hw6940?
"The HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger provides all the essentials to keep your business running even when you're away from the office -- phone, e-mail, and more secure access to business-critical information. At the same time, let your HP iPAQ keep life fun using GPS Navigation, the HP Photosmart Camera, and Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 Mobile to play your digital music and videos."
Just when you thought the iPAQ product line couldn't get more confusing, it got more confusing. :? As a follow-on from news of the hw6910/hw6915's appearance on the HP UK site, the HP US site started showing the hw6940 earlier in the day. Specs-wise, it appears to be identical to the hw6910 (thus, lacking the 1.3-megapixel camera).
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait a few months before picking one of these up. The hw6940 won't be released until late Spring 2006.

If I remember correctly, HP did something similar with the US/UK naming of the 6315. As for this device, I guess it would be okay if not for that ridiculous screen. What's with all the backwards progress on Phone Editions?

HP has never been great with model numbers. In fact, the first-generation Mobile Messenger series was one of their worst: hw6510, hw6510a, hw6510b, hw6510c, hw6510d, hw6510h, hw6515, hw6515a, hw6515b, hw6515c, hw6515d, hw6515e, hw6515f, hw6515h. :|

Don't be too quick to judge the small screen. Once I got used to it I liked it.

How can anyone like viewing less information and having to scroll more?

I guess we entered a "new" era of lower resolution screens. Has anyone tried viewing a web page with this resolution. Well, I have tried it on the Treo-700W (Should be renamed into Treo 350) and it is useless as I cant count how many times I had to scroll back and fourth. My understanding was that the benefit of having a communicator over a regular pocket pc was to be able to browse the web. It seems that these screens defeat the whole purpose!

I'll readily admit that I haven't even tried one. My complaint is mostly philosophical; 240x240 is directly inferior to the formerly standard 320x240. I wouldn't have anything to say if the square-screen devices were instead 480x480, or even the Treo 650's 320x320 (if the latter was supported by Windows Mobile).
For me personally, VGA is the only way to go. But I doubt that anyone would prefer a low resolution screen over a high one, all else being equal. How much more would you have been willing to pay for a 480x480 hw6515 if one had been available?
