Default New Bug Fixes in Softick Card Export II

http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/

A new version (v2.11) of Softick Card Export II is out. Most of the changes are Windows Mobile 5.0 related - namely:

Fixed: Installation problems on localised versions of Windows Mobile 5.0.
 Fixed: CompactFlash-related read/write problems.
Fixed: Write problem on the HTC Wizard (i-mate K-JAM, Qtek 9100, etc.).
Supported: Read-only mode - Dell X50v with Windows Mobile 5.0.

I'm curious about what benefits this software brings beyond the the Explore option in ActiveSync 4.1, and wonder if there is someone out there that uses ot on WM5 and would be willing to comment. I have looked at the vendor website and realize that it allows you to use other file explorers and save directly to the storage card in the PPC from desktop applications, but is that it?

How are people using this software on Windows Mobile devices?

I find it very useful because I use a PowerBook as my main computer and rarely like using my PC...when I need to transfer files, it's much easier to just pop in the cable and use it as a USB mass storage device. I use it to drag and drop photos from iPhoto and iTunes into the appropriate folders on my K-Jam's memory card.

As for synchronizing, I don't do it often since I tend to keep all my organization device-side instead of on the computer since I'm constantly away from a computer to begin with (the life of a college student...I live in the library). I just enter Tasks and calendar items as they are given to me (i.e. Meet with Professor X at this time...so I enter it in...the phone's always in my vicinity). File transfer is my biggest deal...as for installations, I attempt to extract the cab from the exe and then copy it over as well.

I use it in Unversity an on other machines. My Universal appears as a removable drive and charges at the same time!

Same here - it becomes really useful when you need to transfer files to or from machines that don't have activesync, and you don't need to carry a thumbdrive anymore.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! It confirms my suspicion that it's not really that necessary if your primary exchange is between a WM5 device and a Windows workstation.

If you're only interacting with a couple of machines, then no it's not necessary. Since activesync doesn't come standard with XP though, it's incredibly useful when you need acess with more machines.

after installing and soft resetting, the card export ii program appears on my qtek 9100. however, when i try to switch from activesync to card export, i receive the following error:

card export ii
cannot switchg between card export and activesync modes. this may be because of missing dlls or corrupted registry entries.

i have contacted softick support and they suggested i uninstall and reinstall, but got the same results. can someone confirm that this works on their qtek 9100 or i-mate kjam?
