Default The Fujitsu-Siemens T800 Series and Product Roadmap

Okay, no more teasing. While we aren't making any promises on the legitimacy of the following news, it seems valid enough to put an end to the topsy-turvy events that transpired over the past few months.

Key not included.

First, we'll focus on the upcoming Fujitsu-Siemens T800 Pocket PC Phone Edition series (pictured above). According to Pocketinfo.nl, two models, the T810 and the T830, will be officially released on July 15 and July 3 respectively (note they'll also be unveiled for the first time at 3GSM on February 13). With the exception of the two-megapixel camera in the T830, they're essentially the same model: Intel XScale 416MHz processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB ROM, a 240 x 240 display, GSM and UMTS support, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, integrated GPS (SiRFstar III), an SDIO/SD/MMC slot, a thumb-board, and of course, Windows Mobile 5.0. It'll measure in at 4.9" x 2.5" x 0.8" (12.6cm x 6.4cm x 2.1cm) and weigh 6.7oz (190g). iPAQ hw6900 killer? Most likely.

Now, we catch a glimpse of the Fujitsu-Siemens product roadmap for 2006 (from Brighthand). The high-end N500 series model, the N560, will be here in March with some very nice specs to please the geeks amongst us (624MHz processor, VGA screen, GPS, among other things). Those of you who can't wait until March can settle for a similar offering in February where the C550 will offer a 520MHz processor, a 3.5" VGA screen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB-Host.

Dell and HP, where are you?

While the C550 and the N560 are indeed nice devices, they both (seem to) lack the Intel 2700g controller, which starts to become essential for everyone that likes games and/or wants a VGA output. This is a cardinal mistake from F-S.

BTW, as far as the original BrightHand article is concerned: the N560 will have 256M Flash ROM, not RAM. Unfortunately, it seems both the two VGA devices will only have 64M of RAM.

I'm not particularly pleased with the T810/T830 either. I'd like to see a HTC Universal killer - that is, a device with a VGA screen and with much better capabilities (faster CPU, more RAM, real USB host, hardware buttons, preferably no silly thumbboard, EDGE support, 2700g) than the Universal.

I would also like to see better version of Universal with specs listed above, but it looks that at least for now the 240x240 phone editions are much more popular...
Also why would the FS T800 be an Ipaq killer, I would say that at least based on specs this is a killer of any small GSM Phone Edition, including Treo and Wizard.

Why not? Have you seen the specs and form factor of the iPAQ hw6900 series? http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=45550

Both have thumb-boards, 416MHz processors, GPS, and 64MB RAM. However, the T800 series takes it to the next level with 802.11g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, an SDIO/SD/MMC slot (over the hw6900's miniSD), and UMTS support.

Yes having SD instead of mini-SD is a big plus for me. And both of the units looks like 'brothers'

I'm indeed impressed with fujitsu quality and the advancement they've made in the PDA field in such a short span

And yes you're right..where's DELL and HP(went fishing !!)

Sunny

I'd also like to see an updated Universal with MUCH better wireless (quad-band GSM, EDGE, WiFi-g, BT 2.0), double the RAM, Intel 2700g, and integrated SSIII-based GPS. But I would still want the keyboard as this has become a necessity for me (blue backlighting next time around instead of red would be preferrable! ).

But aside from that wish, this new T830 looks really nice and has fantastic specs (a bit better than HP's 6900 (still don't know what GPS chipset the HP has)), but I'm just not into those square screens. If they had put a standard rectangular screen and VGA, I wouldn't hestitate to buy something like this, but for now, I'm staying clear of the "squares".

I was sure about it. 240 x 240 isn't a good news...
Ciao, Gianni.

The T800 series was my hope for this too. Now that it's been dashed, we probably won't see another VGA Phone until next year, or at best November- December of this year. The Universal still stands alone.

I'd like to see some more 2700g devices too

The axim 50v would be perfect, if it had the same quality screen as the HP 4700.
