Cornice Announces Development of 8GB and 10GB Micro Drive Models
"Cornice Inc. � an innovator in consumer storage solutions � today announced the expansion of its storage offerings with the addition of an ultra thin, high-capacity personal storage device. The Cornice Dragon series micro hard drives, available in 8- and 10-gigabytes, will allow OEMs to offer thinner and higher-capacity consumer electronics (CE) devices while featuring industry-leading robustness, durability, and low power requirements for everyday consumer use. Audio/video players, mobile phones and personal storage devices will all be enhanced by the Dragon series micro hard drive."
With the growing use of cellphones as digital cameras and portable music players, this type of development should come as no surprise (Samsung has already been integrating micro drives into their most recent mobile phones). I still keep wondering though when we'll see these microdrives integrated into a Pocket PC device. Of course, we'd be introducing more "moving parts", but I'd certainly be very interested in a portable device that had elements of both solid-state RAM with the high-capacity storage.

I certainly hope these new drive are robust!
No matter how well they make 'em, given that they have moving parts, I doubt they'll never be as shock-resistant as flash.
Because of this, I think tiny drives like this might actually be more appropriate for PPCs than phones -- I know I treat my PPC much more carefully than my cell phone, which tends to get dropped, thrown onto the dresser, etc.
