More Samsung SCH-i830 News Trickles In
CES 2006 is here, so it's only natural for a deluge of hardware news to start flowing in. First on the list is the Samsung SCH-i830. Janak posted on it last week following rumours that the device would hit Verizon this month, and the past day's events seem to confirm the integrity of said rumours.
A few hours ago, Samsung Korea put out a press release outlining its plans to unleash the i830 into the American market by first unveiling it at CES. No lies there - the Gizmodo crew just got some hands-on time at the show to prove it. Official pricing has yet to be revealed, though the general buzz is $699 on a two-year contract. Youch!

No WM5 and no WiFi. Why can't we ever get everything we need in one device?

Well, all my stuff works with WM2003, but WM5 make it easier on battery life... Which is my biggest draw towards it. The EVDO is sooo nice though and with it, WiFi isn't necessary.
A top 5 device in my list.

EVDO is nice assuming you have it in your area. I read that only 20% of the country (which doesn't include my area) has EVDO coverage.
As far as the "everything in one device", the Universal comes close. But only for Europe. The phone part (triband, only slow GPRS) isn't so great for the US.
For me, if all they did was add VGA and a camera to the I730, I'd be pretty happy

I don't get it. What's the improvement? Same, older OS, look out the wifi, not much better screen. What's the fuss all about?

It's not really an upgrade to the i730. More like a companion of sorts.
