Skype for Pocket PC 1.20.89 and 1.2.0.91 Released
A new version of Skype for Pocket PC has just been released - almost eight months after the last major update.
Skype for Pocket PC v1.2.0.89: For all Pocket PCs running CPUs at 400MHz or higher Skype for Pocket PC v1.2.0.91: For all Pocket PCs running CPUs at 312MHz or lower
Despite the processor optimisations in v1.2.0.91, both versions are the same. In these releases, you'll notice support for Windows Mobile 5.0 (as well as Windows Mobile 2003), support for multiple languages (English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and Japanese), support for multiple display types (240 x 320, 320 x 240, 480 x 640, 640 x 480, 240 x 240, and 480 x 480), support for multiple networks (Wi-Fi, 3G/UMTS, and EDGE), improvements in voice quality, support for extended screens, Skype Voicemail, and a collection of bug fixes.

These are still beta versions, not the final. I've been running 1.2 for several weeks, however, and haven't had any major propblems.

Why two versions? Sould you run the .91 with faster CPU?

One version is for PPC's with 400 Mhz or faster processors...
The other is for slower processors...

Yes but why? Do you *have* to choose the faster one if your processor is 400MHz or higher? If you don;t will your PDA blow up? What do you gain?
I have to try this. The last few versions of Skype have been hopeless on VGA machines - locking mine up totally.

Right - it is still beta, but an updated one to the earlier beta that was released a couple months back. Also, it's worth noting that these beta releases have completely replaced what was originally on the Skype for Pocket PC download page (i.e. the older v1.1.x releases).

I'm not quite sure what's so trivial about this. The development team have stated that 1.2.089 is for 400MHz+ CPUs, while 1.2.091 is for <312MHz CPUs - clearly, the latter has been optimised for the slower processors. I think if you attempted to run 1.2.091 on a faster Pocket PC, you'd see no gain. Of course, if you wish to experiment, do so at your own risk.

I played with them both on my XV6600...which is 400 Mhz....I didn't notice any difference... I plan on doing a hard reset, and only loading skype to see if there is an improvement in start up times for that program... It doesn't always seem to load when I click on the icon, I'm wondering if it is an issue with some other program interfering.

I guess you meant important, not trivial ?
Anyway, the point is moot. I tried both. Neither will launch on my E830. No error message. No process running. Not even a bleep.
Skype is still not working for me on PDA :-(

Oops, I had a Sunday brain freeze there. Typing one thing and thinking another. You get the point, anyway.

I used to have a similar issue, back when I was using my X50v. A soft-reset seemed to solve it. Have you tried that?
