Say Hello to Gmail Mobile
"Now you can access your Gmail account from your mobile phone or device. Just point your phone's web browser to http://m.gmail.com. Your Gmail account stays synched, whether you access it from the web or the mobile interface. It's easy to use and it's free (but yes, your wireless plan could still charge you). It also has these cool features: automatically optimizes the interface for the phone you're using; opens the attachments you receive in messages, including photos, Microsoft Word documents and .pdf files; lets you reply by call to people whose phone numbers are in your Gmail Contacts list."
There's something new on the Gmail front. Long have you grown tired of Gmail's lack of proper support for mobile web browsers and now your prayers have been answered. Everything in Gmail is now mobile-friendly, from your inbox to your address book. Attachments are fully supported as well as contact dialing if you happen to have phone numbers assigned to your Gmail contacts. Now that's sweet! Simply launch Internet Explorer Mobile (or a suitable alternative) and visit http://m.gmail.com/ for mobile e-mail goodness.

I've been fiddling with this for a few hours. Not quite everything is ready to go yet, though: it has difficulty detecting URLs in html-formatted messages.

Can you still access full-web version on pie? There are certain html emails I would like to read as html. I find that I am now only seeing the mobile version only. Is this a cookie problem?

It appears Gmail has now been configured to detect your browser version, so you'll automatically be delivered Gmail Mobile even if you visit http://www.gmail.com/
You should be able to bypass that if you configure your UserAgent to make PIE appear as IE6. Tweaks2K2.NET can configure that for you in one quick step. But if you're feeling adventurous and you have a registry editor available, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent and change the following:
"Version"="MSIE 4.01"
"Platform"="Windows CE"
to
"Version"="MSIE 6.0"
"Platform"="Windows NT 5.1"

This is great!!! Exactly what I have been wanting. The builtin Messaging client doesn't play with Gmail very well, so I have been using the web interface for about a month. Even though it was formatted for desktop it worked better than the b/i client.
Now I can have the best of both worlds!!! Proper formatting and display on my device, and easy retrieval of my email. Google you rock!

I hate Google and their quest for world domination, but their products are so good I just can't bring myself to leave them :snipersmile:
