NEC's 0.3mm Flexible Battery: Paving the Way to the Future?
There are batteries and then there are batteries - emphasis and all. NEC's concept 0.3mm battery is flexible and rechargeable in a mere thirty seconds. If such a design could store enough juice, it would have enormous potential in the world of mobile devices. I say, bring on the quarter-inch PDA!

Sounds like something that could line an entire SCOTTeVEST. Of course, the idea of charging my coat at night does sounds a little strange...even for me.

:shocked!: Now that would be cool. And add the solar panels as well. But imagine the cost.

I hope this actually manifests. Battery technology has been stalled for so long with innovation always being around the corner, but never here.

0.3 mm? Wow. If that spec is correct then just handling the battery would give you a hell of a paper cut ;-)
I notice they don't quote the mAh rating of such a battery. Unfortunately, physics has a way of bringing things back to reality. I bet a ton of these stacked to the thickness of a standard PDA battery would yeild an equivalent battery. These batteries are really for applications where the device doesnt require a lot of power but the design is limited by the shape of the battery (such as a very thin watch, or perhaps a wearable GPS).
BTW, anyone remember the original iPAQ Li-polymer battery? I'm having some deja-vu ;-)

Hmm you're right, 0.3mm sounds way too thin for what the photos show?
I also like the sound of the abovementioned flexible battery and flexible screen hehe.

Oh man, with a comment like that I'm surprised an iPod Nano zealot hasn't popped in here and started a... um debate

Check out this photo.
I really like the sound of these batteries. E-paper springs to mind...
