Default Windows Live Mail and Search Beta

http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc

I visited MSN Mobile a day ago and discovered two new entries on the page: Windows Live Mail (Mobile) and Windows Live Search (Mobile). Jason had posted on these services before, but at the time, they weren't ready for public use. Regardless of whether you signed up for the beta or not, it's now live (no pun intended) and available for public testing. Continue on for a few preview images.

Windows Live Mail: "Windows Live Mail beta for your mobile devices is a fast, clean, and simple e-mail service for your mobile device. The basic idea: it shouldn't be such a hassle to do mobile e-mailing. You should be able to see the interface clearly and use it easily. Your address book should be available at your fingertips and you should be able to manage your inbox effortlessly."

Windows Live Search: "Windows Live Search beta for mobile devices lets you use your Web-enabled mobile device to search the Web for almost anything you're looking for, just like on a PC. Search results are formatted to fit on your phone's itty-bitty screen, so you can actually read them easily (a crazy idea, we know). With Local Search, you can find stuff in a specific location (Chinese restaurants in New York, for instance), and see maps with driving directions and phone numbers you can call with a single click. By the way, you need to have your own Web-enabled wireless device to use this service (you knew that, but our lawyers made us add it anyway)."

To access Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Search, simply point your mobile browser to http://mobile.msn.com/pocketpc and click on the relevant links.

Oh dear. I try putting in my UK phone number and my UK post code and it rejects both.

At the risk of sounding a grump, this is far too frequent in US software. Guys, remember there is a wide world out there that doesnt have zip codes.

Default <yawn> another microsoft wannabe

Gee these tools seem awfully similar to something already available - google mobile search and google mobile mail.

Microsoft needs to go buy a clue and bring something out that is innovative rather than copy/steal other companys' ideas.

As per usual microsoft product, the search is crap, especially for those not stateside. And hotmail is still the world's no.1 most spammed email account. Not to mention you have to pay for POP forwarding, which you can get for free with gmail.

For those interested in a real mobile search engine and email, take a look here:
mobile mail:
http://m.gmail.com

a real mobile search engine:
http://www.google.com.au/mobile/

And those looking for an invite to google mail can email me at [email protected]

Oh, you're lighting fires here. Windows Live Mail, and even the old mobile Hotmail interface, were launched well before Gmail Mobile. I'm not sure you can argue that "Microsoft stole Google's ideas", as you put it.
