http://www.handmark.com/products/detail.php?id=482

"Now readers of the Bible interested in Jewish traditions have a comprehensive and mobile resource. The Jewish Study Bible reflects both contemporary biblical scholarship and the richness of Jewish tradition."

Handmark uses the Olive Tree Bible software for their content, which is free. The Jewish Study Bible by Oxford is $39.99 and requires 4MB of space either on the device or on a storage card. It is available for both the Pocket PC and Smartphone platform.

I would like to mention the free resources at JewishContent.org
and Mechon Mamre . Mechon Mamre has an electronic version of the complete Jewish Bible available in a variety of formats including a downloadable HTML zip of the English JPS 1917 translation.

Sichos in English has a large number of books in English on Jewish topics formatted for PocketPC's, all free.

Isn't that the Hebrew Bibile in English? The "Complete Jewish Bible" contains also the Greek New Testament, which was the main point of the CJB. See http://www.messianicjewish.net/jntp/...ish-bible.html for additional info on it.

Many would say that a Bible that contains the New Testament isn't a Jewish bible .. but that's a religious discussion.

I'd argue that the New Testament really isn't "Jewish content".

It depends on the translation. Jewish translations of the old testament are different in some ways than their Christian counterparts. I would bet that the old Testament in the "complete Jewish bible" is actually the Christian translation, as it is with most messianic sects.

How about a version for the Talmud? Now that would be interesting.

I think you should further this conversation with someone in the know. Perhaps Jan at www.bethzion.org could help.

"in the know" about what in my post were you referring? As far as I'm concerned, I am in the know.

Well, you said NT content wasn't Jewish. Was Paul not a Jew? The book of Hebrews (written by whomever) is entirely for the Jews and by a Jew.

I wasn't trying to imply you didn't know, but unless you are a rabbi or Jewish scholar, I would think a rabbi or Jewish scholar would be someone more in the know than most people, which is why I gave a link to a Jewish rabbi.

Aaah.. well I guess it's more about the semantics of "jewish content". Okay, the New Testament is Jewish content in that it was written by a Jew, just like Noam Chomsky's latest book is "Jewish content" in that it was written by a Jew.

However, neither Noam Chomsky's latest book nor the New Testament are "Jewish Content" in that they are equaly holy to Jews(I'm not talking about messianic Jews here though whom are more alike in their beliefs to christians), but still written by Jews.

You gave a link to a messianic Jewish rabbi, not a Jewish rabbi. There's a difference.

People are certainly entitled to enjoy whatever beliefs they would like and I fully support every individual's right to choose the faith that best suits them.

As a traditional Jew however, I find this whole thing rather insulting. Trying to pass a Christian interpretation off as a mainstream Jewish product is wrong under this kind of title. Messianic Jews are NOT traditional Jews and are not recognized as part of the mainstream Jewish religion. I have nothing against them or their beliefs and like I said I fully support their right to believe in whatever they would like just like I would hope they support my right to do the same.

What Handmark is doing here is wrong. They are not clearly marking this product for what it is. There is no Jewish Bible. There is a Torah and a Talmud. Free speech tells us that Handmark has the right to publish whatever they would like however, this is approaching misleading marketing.

I wonder what a group like the Anti-Defamation League would say about something like this?
