Mio A700 GPS-Enabled Pocket PC Phone Edition Officially Unveiled
"Mio Technology, a subsidiary of Mitac International, on November 29 unveiled its new GPS-enabled PDA phone, the A700, which will be available worldwide in mid-December at prices ranging between US$597-746. The A700 will specifically target users in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan as the model features built-in Chinese-version maps of cities in China and Taiwan, according to company president Samuel Wang. The A700 will also be the companys first PDA phone to tap the China market since its affiliated company, Mitac Computer (Kunshan), secured a license in September to sell its own-brand handsets in China, Wang added."

Mio has just released the A700, the ugly-twin of the A701, which we posted on back in August. If it doesn't make your eyes water, then I don't know what will.
An official Flash demo (in Chinese) can be found here. The device features an Intel PXA270 520MHz processor, 192MB of memory, a 2.7" QVGA (240 x 320) screen, tri-band GSM/GPRS functionality, integrated GPS, Bluetooth 1.2, a 1.3-megapixel camera, an SD/MMC slot, and Windows Mobile 5.0.

Nice processor, commensurate memory, fast-processor, GPS, camera,bluetooth..everything is here..
BUT WAIT, where's wi-fi..oh no, why always this happens.
Everytime I see the specs of a particular PDA, I always see something missing..although this is on the 'brink' of perfection.
This is exactly what HP 6515 should have been
<off-topic>plz HP if u r observing this thread, make rectangluar screen models(320*240 or better go for VGA)..</off-topic>

I ran the flash demo and although I can't read Chinese, it did have a little WIFI icon in one of the sections. If it has WIFI, then it's exactly what I want.

I don't know if I'm unusual or something, but for some reason I think that the A700 is *ugly* when compared to The Register's A701 pictures.
The A701 is sleek. I want one. Too bad I'm in North America
Anyone know if an imported A701 would work with Rogers or Telus in western canada?
(The potential lack of WiFi doesn't bother me, because I'd mostly be using it as a PDA, not a web browser ... so long as I have some way to transfer files - or programs that I write - to it, I'm good. Plus, it has an SD slot, so you should theoretically be able to add in WiFi if you badly need it.)

Yes. That is the exact point I mentioned in the original post. More ranting here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/foru...ic.php?t=43422

So far, these devices have been tagged for Asian release only. But let's wait and see.

For the A700, that's correct. The A701 is targetted for a Mid-December release in Europe/UK, and that's the one I'm hoping to be able to import and use on a local provider. I think it'll work with Rogers, but I'm not entirely sure.
