Default PocketMusic 4.0 Released

http://www.pocketmind.com/

Pocket Mind Software has just released an update to the popular PocketMusic Freeware (a free download) and PocketMusic Bundle (available for $19.95 from Handango). If you currently own PocketMusic Bundle 3.x and wish to upgrade to this latest version, there's a special $9.95 upgrade offer, also available from Handango. Finally, there is a new plugin up for grabs which extends the functionality of PocketMusic to play back AAC files. If you think that's something you might use, then that's available for $9.95. A full list of features of each product can be found at the Pocket Mind website. [Affiliate]

how do install the damn thing? The free version doesn't have an extension. I added .exe and .arm, neither worked.

I just tested it for you. The file downloads as pmfree.exe,and... it's a little messed up. Rename the file extension to .zip so it appears as pmfree.zip. If your browser isn't showing file extensions, open up My Computer, select Tools > Folder Options > View, then untick the box associated with "Hide extensions for known file types".

Next, extract pmfree.zip and you should get a file labelled PocketMusic.exe. It's a desktop executable, so you'll need to install it over ActiveSync.

Can it "take over" the hardware buttons? I'd like to be able to do all navigation (FF/Rew/Start/Stop/Volume+/-, scroll artists/songs, and ALSO exit app) all without using the stylus. (I want to reproduce the iPod's "one-handedness" with my PPC.)

I've been thinking about buying an iPod Nano, but it would make so much more sense to just have a 4GB SD card for my Axim, except that there's no way to navigate with a stylus while I'm driving...

You can take over the buttons for most of the functions you want except scrolling information and exiting.

I tried many players for the PPC and the absolute best one is GSPlayer. PocketMusic is a processor hog. Its response time, when quickly switching between songs, is sluggish. GSPlayer is way more efficient, with all the programmable buttons available.

gsplayer cannot *really* lock hardware buttons so it's totally useless as a pocket player. besides that pocket music has much more features and only uses about 8% cpu more.

I can't get PocketMusic (freeware) to skip tracks in a playlist. Whenever I select the next track button, it just stops playing.
