Default Arkon Releases New Docking Mounts and Docking GPS Mounts

http://www.arkon.com/dockingmount.php

"The Docking PDA Mounts are an essential accessory for your PDA or Smartphone, particularly when used with GPS navigation software such as Arkon's MobiNavigator. This new family of mounts features the industry's most powerful speaker, a high quality built-in hands-free function with microphone and noise cancellation, and a docking PDA-specific power connector for ease of use. An incredibly strong and reliable windshield suction pedestal makes it the must have accessory for PDAs and Smartphones. Got GPS? If not, then consider Arkon's Docking Powered GPS PDA Mounts. They feature a super sensitive GPS receiver built directly into the back of the new Docking Power Mount cradle. Customers looking for an inexpensive GPS add-on for their Pocket PC or Smartphone opt for the Docking GPS PDA Mount bundled with Arkon's MobiNavigator GPS map software. As with the standard Docking Mounts, the Docking GPS Mounts can be used as a high quality hands-free speakerphone car kit if used with a Smartphone PDA."

Arkon has just released a new line of Docking PDA Mounts for select HP iPAQs, the Dell Axim X50/X50v, the HTC Magician, and HTC Blue Angel. I've got one for my X50v and will be posting more about it later in the year. But if you simply can't wait, then I suggest checking them out now as they're worth every dollar spent.

These look decent. I've got a X50V with a Sena case. Do you think this will work with this case? I like the model specific PDA cradles because it gets rid of some of the wires but I hate taking my PDA out of the case just to put it in the cradle.

Also, it doesn't show it in the pictures, but a headphone cord plugged into the headphone output is required to use the amplified speaker isn't it? I ask because on Akron's site it doesn't show this on the X50V but it does show it on the Imate. I don't know if the bottom connector has the capability to pass sound or not.

Thanks,
-Shane

If your case has extensive padding in the rear, then it might not fit in the cradle. The way the cradle's connector is positioned ensures that the PDA sits in snugly (i.e. no loose spaces where the rear of the PDA rests against the cradle).

Correct. You need to have the cord plugged in for the sound to be amplified (note that all these necessary cables are included in the package).

Default Car mount with Leather case on.

Actually, Proclip markets the adjustable as for iPod mount. I strongly suggest this model, since it will fit all PDAs (even with leather case on), Ipod, etc.., and offers very sturdy mounting position.

I guess one of the major downsides to this is that it's not powered. I've tried a universal mount before with a separate USB/car charger kit, and it was a real hassle.

Darius,
Thanks for responding. The case doesn't have any padding per say but it does have some ribbing that goes up the side that isn't exactly thin.
Here's a review that shows the back of the case.

http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=por...ews&id=590

The major reason I got this case is because it can sit in the cradle and charge without removing the case. The bottom inch and a half or so only has a thin layer of leather. Only above that does it have the ribbing. Can the PDA lean forward away from the back without putting too much strain on the connector? Sorry for all the questions but I'd really like to get one of these if it will work with my case.

Thanks,
-Shane

Hmm, interesting. There isn't a lot of padding on that case, so it just might fit. The PDA can lean forward by a few millimetres, but I'd be wary of relying on that as excess strain on the connector may damage it. If you want complete reassurance, it may help to ask Arkon the same question.

As far as I'm aware, it doesn't.

Does anyone know of a site that does a PDA holder comparrison of all the different types out there? I am very specific on my needs since I have an extended life battery that protrudes out another few cm's on the back of my ipaq 2215 device. Since I know of this I have been very hesitant to buy anything but I know I have the need for one... just paying the 50 bucks plus shipping to find out it does not fit would make me mad.

Really I would like to have voice amplification, charging, and of course cradle. It just seems most voice amplification cradles are more form fitted and may not work with my extended life battery.
