Default A Quick Look at the Sprint PPC-6700

http://gigaom.com/2005/09/27/sprint...700-stands-out/

"You may have heard the argument: When talk turns to converged consumer electronics devices, many tech industry observers point to the clock radio as one of the few success stories. Everything else, no matter the maker, tends to sacrifice usability in the name of feature-lust. So what to make of Sprints new HTC-designed, UTStarcom-produced, PPC6700?"

Matt Maier over at Om Malik's Broadband Blog has previewed the recently-released Sprint PPC-6700 (a.k.a. HTC Apache). While the device might not be as cheap as other Pocket PC Phone Editions, Matt still thinks the device is worth two thumbs-up.

lol @ the author of the article saying that $479 is expensive. i damn near spent $700 on my Jam, and other people are about to throw down anywhere from $800-1100 on either a k-Jam or a JasJar.

man, if Sprint wasn't such a joke in my area, i would really consider this badboy for a purchase.

and tinier than some of the larger PDA phones like the Sony Ericsson P900
what ???
the p900 was the smalles "pda phone" for a long time, until the MDA compact came along, equaling it's size.
(slightly shorter, but fatter and thicker)

okay, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about!

Well I'm very intersted in this ... as long as it's not much bigger than my JAM I'm well up for it. Can't be bothered with the keyboard but love the idea of WM5 and WiFi .

He got the Sprint data plan pricing completely wrong.

Prices for unlimited data on the Sprint PPC-6700 start at $10/month.

The $40-80 prices are for data-only devices like the Sprint EVDO PC Card. That's probably the same price you'd pay if you wanted the 6700 without a voice plan. But I think that's an unlikely scenario.

I have this phone and have been using it for the past week or so. Had a treo 650 and switched to the 6700. I love how fast EVDO is and the ability to switch from Wifi when its available. Battery life isnt all that to bark over but nonetheless the phone is a BIG EYE OPENER especially to Palm. So far I like this device but surely do miss the Treo form factor. Guess I need to get used to it.
