Okay, is it me or are these HTC Universal's insanely expensive? It seems like everytime I read a post on PPCThoughts or other sources, they are all around $1,000.

Now I know Jason is still jonesing for one bad (I hope he doesn't get one though as I'm afraid he will lick it to much and ruin it) but a $1,000?!?!?!?!

At least with a $1,000 Handheld PC (Jornada 720) I got a 640x240 display....

You're right - they really are that expensive. Unless you happened to scoop one up for $149 at PDC. 8)

WAAAAYYY too expensive.. I'd NEVER pay more than $500-$600 for one... I only paid $380 for my Axim x50v

Dopod??? I can see Do-Pod, like iPod, but it is still dumb... I look at it and see "duped" or "doped"

"He was duped, then he was doped."

It's not just you. The only affordable ones so far have come from the PDC ($150!), and supposedly from O2 (150-230, depending on contract). Every other announced Universal sells for about 1000 USD.

And the more powerful Universal packs a 640x480 screen into a smaller package. 8)

I've been on product naming committees for an international company. We had to be careful a proposed product name wasn't an insult to a German grandmother or a suggestive inuendo to a Japanese uncle. Dopod was definately not focus-grouped on an English speaking audience. The Dope Pod. Maybe they should market it in the U.S. as the Smart Pod but then it's almost creating insult to their original audience.
