Pocket PC Dubai's First Impressions of the i-Mate JASJAR
"A lot of expectations have been placed on the JASJAR, and they should be as it is a device capable of doing almost anything except giving you a backrub. I will be posting a full review later on in the coming weeks, but would like to give you guys a rough idea about what this BEAST is all about and what it is capable of."
Hey! Here's a device we haven't yet covered... I mean, not since yesterday at least. Pocket PC Dubai weighs in with their first impressions of the i-Mate Jasjar (aka HTC Universal) along with some photographs of their own. Included are some sample camera shots if you're interested in seeing the camera quality. My favorite part of this mini-review? The observed 40 second boot time! :| I sure hope this device is stable!

Update
Hi,
I am Docc, the person who has written the "first impressions of the JASJAR". Would just like to update you guys regarding the boot time of the device. Once i uninstalled SPB Pocketplus 3.0, the boot time significantly cut down to 18-20 seconds and the system performance also drastically improved.
Initially, with SPB PP 3.0, the device began to act like a 40 yr old drunkard i.e sluggish and stupid, but once it was gone, it was PPC Nirvana all over again. I suppose 20 seconds is not that bad at all, and definitely a gargantuan improvement over the earlier mentioned 40 second boot time.
Comments?

My Windows Smartphone (C500) takes a similar time to boot, which was a shock after the ~5 seconds a Nokia takes! That said, the Nokia didn't do as much. My current device - MDA Compact - also takes an age to boot. You'll reboot PPC phones more often than Smartphones but do it once a day (just before you brush your teeth, say) and you won't notice the time.

Thats a releive...20 secconds is not that bad.
My software loaden Nokia 6600 takes almost a minute.

Yep, that's why I said I hoped the device is stable. If it is, then I could just force a reboot at the start or end of each day, but if it isn't, then that boot time could inflict a lot more pain.
Thankfully, doccppcd has updated us with a boot time that is half of what was originally reported and from all reports thus far, it seems stability is not an issue.

Just a remark about the review:
"Camera: Finally a camera to make you throw away your 6MP camera. Oh get serious, that�s not going to happen anytime soon!!! On a more serious note, the camera is very good in comparison to its predecessors. Its takes good quality images at 1MP and 2MP (interpolated). There are various settings that can be used such as Auto, Night, Sepia etc. I must mention here about the Night mode which really improves the picture quality. Since this device supports Flash (which is very powerful), taking close-up pictures in the night is rather easy."
Actually, the images are as bad as those of, say, the Pocket Loox 720. Don't expect anything from the camera.
Incidentally, the related XDA-Dev forum is really worth checking out - tons of posts, reports etc.
