User Preview & Screenshots of iMate JasJar (AKA HTC Universal)
"Two things I have noticed very early on....the screen quality of this device is excellent. I think the best I have ever seen. Secondly, if you have blown this device off solely because it is too big. I think you should see and hold one, you may change your mind. I'm not saying you definitely will. It is big, but not as big as you expect. It's more of a 6" brick than it is a 12" block."
Can too much HTC Universal news in one day be such a bad thing? Dave Evans over at HowardForums has gotten his hands on a JasJar / HTC Universal unit for review. This isn't his formal review just yet, but he does mention his initial impressions and drops a boatload of juicy photographs (40+ total). Check it out!

The pics comparison with x50v was one I've been waiting for. Kills it for me. Specs telk you a lot but hold ny x50v next to my ear tells me everything I needed to know.
I only make a couple of calls a day BUT I coulddn't bare to carry on of these about all day.

Yup, it's definitely a phone to be used with a Bluetooth headset. It has a builtin speed dialer app that works very well over Bluetooth.
This is what I find the most worrying though:
This is right out of the box, with no added software. Only what gets added from the extended ROM
Remeber all the discussions we had about the memory requirements on WM5.0. I felt it needed 128mb of ROM opposed to the 96 it was slated for originally. Good thing they increased that, otherwise there would be almost no storage at all...but they dropped the RAM down to 64mb. :?: That sounds like enough, but what is left for users to run apps is getting rather slim...and this seems to be the standard memory configuration for WM5.0 devices. Both sides of the memory ROM and RAM are pretty slim.

So of the 64MB of RAM you have for execution, you only have ~48MB to play around with? :| Bugger...

OMG!!!!
This thing is gianormous!
Keyboards on PDA Phones suck arse!
Give me more memory, bigger screen, more power, better camera.
Last time I used the keyboard on my Xv6600 I droppped it. With this device I would have to stop and sit down to be able to type.
Sorry just frustrated with the whoe keyboard crapola (sliders included)!

The keyboard is one of the best features of this device, right after the screen. The screen is incredible. The keyboard it is very easy to use without sitting down. It balances in your hand, and is big enough to be very easy to use. With the shortcut buttons on it you seldom need to use the stylus.
Size...for those who need a data-centric device with cellular and wifi internet capabilities it is going to be a hit. For all those carring their 4700 Ipaqs, and Dell x50s around in their pocket, plus a phone, this device should work pretty well for them. It's only big if you think of it purely as a phone. That is not it's intended use. If you think of it as a connnected data device it's pretty cool. Data entry has never been easier....to all those folks who carried Ipaqs with dual slot sleeves, this thing is tiny.
Personally I don't need all that it holds. The eten, Jam, or new K-Jam are more for me as well.
Dave
