The front-facing camera is screaming "videoconference" but without 850MHz, EDGE, or compatible UTMS, the phone portion is dead to US customers.
Let's hope there's a US-compatible version somewhere on the assembly line, and I don't mean CDMA for Verizon Wireless! Last thing I need is someone picking apart and placing pricetags over at all the great features this has to offer natively.
How far apart did they release the US 850MHz JAM from the original 900MHz JAM?
I know it's all up to HTC, of course, but I'm sure in my heart of hearts they have to have something planned for this hemisphere.

T-Mobile uses 900Mhz right? I am considering buy one of these and I have T-Mobile.

Yep, this badboy should work on T-Mo no problem since they don't use the 850 Mhz range. Ha ha you cingular people and your more-available network :roll:

Still.... no edge, so even T-mob customers in the US are stuck with too slow GPRS speeds. Man, if this thing offered half way decent data speeds, it would be the perfect device.
When the Jam was announced, they announced an 850 band device right around the same time. I have yet to hear anything, even a rumor, that the Universal is going to be reconfigured for US use. Sad to say, but I don't think any US carriers have an interest in a powerful device such as this. They'd rather sell the i-tunes phone with the empty hope of selling 2.00 song downloads. :roll:

It's bloody massive .... reminds me of my Psion 3m (or what ever it was called) I had that back 10 years ago ! Why would I want a brick in my pocket ? Deffo not interested in it sorry.
**edit** Also if I want a keyboard all get my laptop out  .

I just got to play with one unit (T-Mobile Germany) and I believe it will defenetly be not for everybody. Compared to current PocketPCs it is a little on the large & heavy side but compared to mini laptops or the old HandheldPCs/Psions it is almost tiny.
I like that it packs a lot of value into a relativly small package: If you have application for its features and you are not a two-pice guy there isn't a device that comes close to it. What I liked at first glance:
- very high quality look&feel (especially the screen rotation that snaps into place with a solid click)
- best integrated keyboard I've used so far
- fantastic screen
- standard mini-USB port
- fast / very responsive
- UMTS (3G) for me being in Germany with a good 3G coverage defenetly this is a must (I'm currently using an hx4700 together with a UMTS phone over bluetooth and I surely wouldn't like going back to GPRS)
