ROM Update For iPAQ hx4700 Series
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/HandheldiPAQ/us/download/22883.html
HP has an update to ROM 1.10 that fixes a problem with the battery capacity value. It is an XIP ROM update (as all updates from OEMs should be) so this won't take up any of your memory, nor will it go away should you hard reset. Note though that once you apply this update, you should immediately back your device up and discard any older backups. Restoring a backup from an image that had a different ROM can cause problems. It is a 5-6MB download and currently available in English, Spanish, German and French. The Japanese update reads 0MB, so that one is probably still getting the finishing touches put on it. You must have ROM 1.10 installed before applying this update. There is a warning on the HP site that there is a problem with the 1.10 ROM and the extended battery. You should be OK in installing it anyway and then applying this patch if you have been holding off.

I put this on Friday - no data loss, no reloads, Everything works great and the footprint looks the same. Although with the 128M mem upgrade from pc techs, I dont worry too much.
Now, if those darn 5000mah Mugens hurry up and come out.

rom update
For some reason I did the update twice because some erros, the last one saying "could not start windows.exe". So, the second time I did not pay any attention to the error and anyhow I did verify the system version and everything ok.

So I downloaded the file from HP site, installed it to my hx4700 and then click the file "*.xip" file to install it. After the update has been installed, the file is gone, but 2 file remain:
setup.exe
setup.hps
So can I delete this or do I have to do "Uninstall"?
