Default More Mobile RPG Goodness: Arvale II Released

http://www.arvale2.com/

"Arvale II is an epic Role Playing Game, with over 40 hours of gameplay, eight immense continents with over 325 maps to explore, 445 different monsters to fight against, and over 400 different items, melee weapons, and magic weapons to use."

And so the Arvale legend continues with PDAmill's recent release of Arvale II. Yes, more monsters to slay, more regions to explore, and more Superior Runes of Major Addiction. ;-) Bottom line - there's plenty bang for buck to be had here.

I'm pretty hooked on Guild Wars and Arvale II at the moment, so if you're a RPG nut like me, I suggest you check the latter out if you're after a fantastic Pocket PC RPG. If you've not yet played the first Arvale title, then that's also worth a look. Handango is selling Arvale II for $19.95, and pocketnow.com has a short take on the game if you need a bit of help with your purchasing decision. [Affiliate]

I reviewed Arvale 2 (my review is here) so I have been able to play it for a while. It's definitely a great game, and I would advise anybody (especially RPG fans) to at least try the demo out. Like all other PDAMill titles, Arvale 2 is top quality software. The storyline is written well as well, and even supplies a few laughs.

I really hope they updated the gameplay in Arvale 2 because I had issues with Arvale the original.

1) The fighting system was very iffy. I could go into 1 battle and die in 3 seconds then the next go in and win it without breaking a sweat (usually this occured on the monsters that inexplicably would do major damage hits.

2) Monsters actually level as you level - While that may be okay for some people I spent about 10 levels right by the openeing screen and didn't even start to explore wondering when the little rats would stop raising levels/hps/and damage done.

3) Some of the pointers were a bit more than vague leaving me to have to wander around aimlessly looking for what I needed to do next. I.E. in the swamp where you keep getting reset if you go the wrong way.

In all I give it a thumbs up for effort and it was decient in alot of respects and can hold its own I just hope it gets a little improvement.

Default Time For Snails now?

Hey Goro,

Now that PDAmill has finished Nav N' Go and Arvale 2 is there any chance you'll revisit the problems with Snails?

That's in the nature of random base fighting systems classic RPGs use. One time you "roll a 1", next time it might be a "14"...

Didn't even notice that. Who'd spend 10 levels in the opening screen?
But I don't think that's bad. It would be terribly boring if the monsters would be too easy to kill, and low level monsters also wouldn't increase your levels too much...

It took me some time to figure out these pointers need to be taken literally and are section based. I.e., if it's "left - right - up", you have to go left until the other section is loaded, then go back (no matter how useless this seems) and up. I think a proper maze would have been better, but on the other hand a RPG needs to contain some riddles, and I think it's also a part of the self-irony (like the "We're only parts in a game" comments).
I expect there'll be some "strange behaviors by design" in Arvale II, too.
