HTC Wizard News Roundup
There's been tons of new news on the HTC Wizard today, and instead of making 5 separate posts, here's all that we've gotten so far. For those of you who don't know, the HTC Wizard is the successor to the compact HTC Magician. The dimensions of the device are similar, except it's a bit thicker to accomodate a keyboard. It looks like it'll have a 200MHz OMAP processor (hopefully faster than HP's variant 8O), GPRS/EDGE, WiFi, Bluetooth, or some combination thereof with a 240x320 screen running WM5. The unique aspect of this device is the landscape nature of the keyboard, as the following image demonstrates.

Anyway, on with the news:- WindowsMobile.no has a ton of pictures of the device (including the above one) branded as the Qtek 9100. Like other HTC devices, we'll probably see a number of different brandings as they come out.
- Phone Scoop reports that the HTC Wizard has passed FCC certification, and (at least the submitted version) has 850 and 1900MHz support, so expect good US coverage. As to whether or not US carriers will support it, as always that's up in the air. Phone Scoop noted certain T-Mobile markings, but it's not clear if that's T-Mobile USA or T-Mobile Germany.
- Arne, from the::unwired, also chimes in with the news that there may be multiple stylings/editions of the device. At this point, I'm not picky -- I'll take any of them. :P
This device looks like a compelling solution for those that want a compact Pocket PC Phone with a little more oomph than the Magician. 8)

Those photos that Arne Hess has come from the FCC documents. Go to
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/cf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=683979&fcc_id='NM8WZ'
and select 'EUT Photos for SAR Report' and you can see lots of pictures.
Three models - the WIZA100 (the square blocky design with camera), the WIZA110 (same design but no camera) and the WIZA200 (the more rounded design we've seen to date - with camera). There's also a doc in which HTC say that they are functionally the same - except for the missing camera on one model.

Re: HTC Wizard News Roundup
holy dalek! I want one of those.
I am only scared that skype voice calls will not work in it due to slow processor - 200 MHz only...

802.11b/g ? Could it be the first WM device with 802.11g connection ? or at least 802.11g friendly ?
What do you think about it ?

Yeah, the initial reports of the Wizard suggested it was 802.11g-equipped. It'll be interesting to see how it performs against most other 802.11b devices. Will users take advantage of the 54Mbps? We'll see.

Agreed. It's a great looking device.
TI's processors tend to be pretty reliable though I guess we've yet to see how well they'll work in a Windows Mobile device. The 200MHz clock speed is a bit low though. How it compares with the Samsung S3C24xx processors at around the same speed has yet to be seen.

Nice.
If this thing comes in cdma variety coupled with EVDO it will be a real hard decision between this and the XVA IV. The XDA IV is perfect...except for the bulk.

Very nice looking. I could definitely see using this as an everyday phone. The comparison pictures sure make the iPaq 65XX series look huge in comparison. The OMAP processor does give me a little concern. I used the 6315 briefly upon release and was not pleased with the performance.
I wonder if the device is smart enough to auto-rotate the screen when the keyboard is opened?
Now all we need is word on when we can actually buy one of these! :deal:
