Default Motorola Announces the Motorola Q (Formerly Known as the RAZRberry)

http://www.davespda.com/index.php?itemid=464

"Motorola has officially announced the Motorola Q (also know as the RAZRberry or the Franklin). The Q is an extremely thin Windows Mobile 5.0 device, measuring in at 0.45 inches think. It features a 320x240 pixel screen (which means it is landscape by default). The Q is based on Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone, though you would think with the QWERTY keyboard that is included the device would be running Phone Edition. Pictures, further specs, and the complete press release are below. The Motorola Q includes 1.3 Megapixel camera, miniSD, Bluetooth, a QWERTY thumb/keyboard, keys for one-handed navigation and more. The QWERTY keyboard has the same EL backlighting as the RAZR but the keys are raised for touch typing. The expected release date is Q1 2006."

Well, looks like I was wrong - when I posted about this last month I thought that based on the specs it would be a Pocket PC Phone Edition. It's not - it's a Smartphone! But here's what's curious: in the press release, Motorola doesn't confirm the RAM/ROM configuration, or the CPU type. It certainly looks like a very full-featured Smartphone! Unfortunately it won't be available until Q1 2006 - what's with Motorola and their huge lag time between announcement and when the actually ship the product? This looks like it might be a killer product, but I hope Motorola brings it to market with their first timetable target.

What's just as interesting as the fact that it's Smartphone is the orientation of the screen -- it looks landscape. If so, this may be the first landscape Smartphone.

Hey janak, it mentioned already that its in landscape mode.

I think we better wait and see if and when Moto will really release this.

This is the first Windows Mobile Smartphone I've seen that may actually tempt me away from my Treo 650. I wonder when this device will become widely available, and the specs.

So much is yet unknown about this product. It has "Treo killer" written all over it.

Yeah, if Motorola ever releases it. I anticipate multiple delays, then silence for a while, and finally an announcement that it won't be released after all. By that time it won't matter because its specs will have become unimpressive (if we even know them in detail by then).

In my opinion, the styling's great, though it would benefit from the removal of the somewhat empty space beneath the keypad. My two cents.

I am still standing correct: Never expect Moto to release a decent PPC phone. This one almost get there, but with a DEFAULT landscape and SMARTPHONE edition, this phone doesn't even deserve PPCT frontpage news at all.

BY the way, Today DELL has X50V for $263 only with 2 year warranty and an extra battery.

Dell Home has Axim X50 624MHz PDA for $418 - $120 off coupon JDDBDD1213FWWH - $35 off $300 email coupon = $263, free shipping. $35 coupon is $0.99 from ebay.
