Default The Pepper Pad's a Poor Performer. Period.

http://ptech.wsj.com/archive/ptech-20050721.html

"In general, I would say the Pepper Pad is too expensive and too limited to fulfill its mission, at least in this first incarnation."

We've posted on the Pepper Pad before - some of you loved it, while some of you hated it. But let's forget about that for now. Walt from The Wall Street Journal gave the Pepper Pad a spin, and the verdict on the far-from-pocket-sized device? Nice, but costly and bugged with limitations. Give the review a read, and for all you pro-Pepper Pad and anti-Pepper Pad posters from the aforementioned thread, let us know whether you've changed your mind.

$800? Insane. whan will these single purpose internet device manufacturers figure out no one wants one? At $100 I could see something like this having value. At $800, gimmie a cheap laptop from Wal-Mart and I'll keep the change.

$800 is a lot but let's not all cry foul now. Some 6 or 7 years ago when 3COM released the Audrey, it flopped and was sold out to auction houses. It retailed for about $499 US. It wasn't until some innovative individuals got a hold of it and made it better that the Audrey took off to new heights. I hope they make this and I hope it flops just like the Audrey did, so I can buy 2 on ebay at 1/5 of the price and have fun with it.

I want a device like this badly, but at this price it's just not practical. For the price of 1 pepper, I could get 2 top-of-the-line Ipaqs that would do the job and have more functionality. At $400 I'd love it, but at this price... i'll pass.

Ha! This is a joke. $800 for a Tablet PC-like device that can't play a wide variety of media files or view PDF files? And no wired network connections (not as important but still handy)?
