Microsoft To Officially Name Longhorn - Windows Vista?
http://www.activewin.com/awin/comments.asp?HeadlineIndex=30777
Apparently Longhorn has been officially named Windows Vista, or least that is what was indicated at a sales conference in Atlanta. Vista means "a distant view through or along an avenue or opening."
Ok, there are just too many jokes here. Sometimes I feel I am looking into the distance waiting on the next security update or service pack. So, in typical Pocket PC Thoughts fashion, let's change course here. Instead of actually discussing this name, what name do you feel would be appropriate for Longhorn?

How about Long"wait" or Long"overdue". They could also follow the "i" craze started by Apple and call it iHorn or iXP

How about variations on LongXXXX? Long-awaited, Long-overdue, Long-way behind Tiger?

How about they capitalize on everyone's favorite OS by naming it Windows ME version 2?

I've heard rumors that they are going to "hide" the service pack updates that are currently cluttering Add/Remove programs.

I have a ton of ideas but none are practical -
Name releases after animals -
Pit Viper, Anaconda, Wolverine, Tazmanian Devil
Name them after common cooking ingrediants -
Oregano, Tyme, Parsley, Sage, Paprika
I just don't understand why they didn't stick with their date naming convention when they went to XP (especially since then 2003 server came out with the same naming convention they used before).
While I can understand the name Vista I can't quite say that I like it.... I can't quite say I want to here someoen say "I think I am running Vista at least that is what I run at home"

What about WM200? (memory vacuum edition) the WM to keep it in line with the familiar Windows Mobile range that we already know

How about Longing. I've been longing for a real operating system from MS for many years. After the release next year(?), when people are asked what operating system they are running, they can just reply, "I'm Longing."

I cannot believe that they did not call Windows.NET, that would have been the right move.
