Default Introducing the HP iPaq rz1710 Navigator GPS

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/HP-iPAQ-r...-Pocket-PC.aspx

"A compact Car Cradle with integrated SiRFStar III GPS receiver, built-in speaker, built-in windshield-mount suction cup pocket pc reflects a new innovative move in PDA strategy from HP. The HP iPAQ 1710 is presently the best value priced HP PDA from the new range of iPAQs, specifically engineered to fulfil the role of bargain priced PDA based GPS this is ideal. From it's specifications it is a strategically streamlined version of the very latest handheld computers that is perfect for Satellite Navigation due to its competitive pricing, bottom-based connection port and its portrait and landscape viewing modes."

Well, I've certainly heard great things about the SiRFStar III GPS chip (at least with the GlobalSat BT-338 device). It's too bad that this solution appears to be only sold as a package consisting of both the PDA and the add-on GPS together. Otherwise, this could be a really compelling solution for any rz1710 owners looking to enable themselves with GPS capability. Uhhh... some might even argue that this solution actually turns the rz1710 into a useful PDA. :worried:

How much can it really cost to make a custom for each of the most popular PDA? Make it for $5, sell it for $20 +$30 for the actual cradle, and most people would be happy for a neat and tidy solution.

That's kind of what Seidio and ProClip do. They think it's worth a bit more than $20-$30 though.

I guess that HP had to get rid of a lot of rz1715's that they couldn't sell - innovative solution to move dead stock....

Actually Sven the device in the link is on my "Must Have" list. Just wainting to get enough saved up in my Paypal account and then I am going to order it.

I actually do have a Seidio mount and am very pleased with it. I have a more universal one because I am a bit fickle and can't settle on one PPC . It is attached to the car using a Proclip mount though, rather than Seidio's. I love the way ProClips work, fastening to your specific car, without damaging anything. Very slick. Wasn't any real engineering to fit the Seidio front to the ProClip back.
