Innobec SideWindow Officially Released
"Fresh off the presses: SideWindow v1.01 has now officially been released! After weeks of anticipation, it's time to break out the champagne and tell your dog, you can now extend your desktop onto your Pocket PC, and drag yor favorite picture viewer, media player, or instant messaging software on your PDA while you use your desktop real estate for more important tasks."
A little over a month ago, I posted on the beta release of Innobec SideWindow. The response was huge and it seemed many users were eager to put it through its trial run. If you were one of those people, then good news for you! You'll soon receive a registration key from Innobec to register a copy of SideWindow 1.01 - now out of beta, and officially released into the market. A trial version of SideWindow 1.01 is available from PocketGear, and can be purchased for $14.95. [Affiliate]
Update: Innobec has just dropped the price of the product to $14.95.

I've been looking for something similar to this... something that would enable you to move your mouse over to your Pocket PC from your regular PC and you would see a mouse pointer on your Pocket PC. I imagine something like this could be set up by running a VNC server on your Pocket PC and some app like "Desktop2PocketPC" on your 'puter.
Anyway, I'd still like to try the SideWindow software, but we have stinking Windows 2000 on our laptops here at work, and SideWindow requires XP.

?? you understand it doesn't let you operate PPC applications on your PPC. It gives you a 240 x 320 extra monitor for your PC.
I've been using dual monitors for years and it is great. IM can be on the other one, Things that have tool bars you can undock, like graphics programs, can have the tools on one monitor and the drawing area on the other, unclutterred. I'm not sure I see the point of a 240 x 320 second monitor. That's just me though.

Yes, exactly, I understand that. I see SideWindow as a neat utility. I'd lke to try it out, but it doesn't serve the purpose I'm really longing for.

this is exactly what I have been waiting for.
I work with seve4ral design programs and I always wanted to be able to drag my tool bars to my Pocketpc.
This is great! I will give it a try.

If you drag a window onto your pocket pc, can you maximize that window on the pocket pc screen? This seems like a cool idea if you don't want to invest in dual monitors.

This product seems to fall under the category of "Because It Can." It may truly serve a few people and/or only for a few moments in a day, since many of us have a mobile device because we're actually mobile and not tied down to our desktop PCs. It may be "neat" to those who'd want to put Winamp on the side while having all the free real estate on their screen for other work.
I like the idea and the fact that it can be done in the first place, but this is definitely for a niche market.

In a day and age where one can get a decent 19 inch LCD, 1200 x 1600, for less than $400 US, how pixel-bankrupt must you people be to be jumping up in joy over 320x240 pixel screen real estate.
There is a strange phenomenon at play here and it goes like this:
Something new announced for the PPC
- Hurray lets all jump for joy, heee, haaaa want one, want one, what does it do?
- Nothing really just wastes time and resource,
- Oh, OK, lets wait for the next announcement, perhaps it will be something useful
Yes, this about sums up my short review of this app. Sorry I fail so see what the excitement is all about.

Looks like an interesting application but like szamot I am not certain that I see its value based on my needs. For those of us with 640x320 VGA screen PDAs this software may be of some benefit (assuming its VGA aware) in freeing up some desktop space but would not have a significant impact in decluttering my workspace. A cool tool for some but definitely a niche product for those who don't want to or can't invest in a 2nd monitor.
