Default Exploring the Qool Labs QDA-Pocket PC

http://www.palm-dubai.net/001/2005/...l_lab.html#more

Something neat has surfaced from the offices of Qool Labs. Not too long ago, the company introduced a 1.3MP-equipped Palm OS smartphone known as the QDA-700. Okay, that's all fine and dandy, but what's next? The folk at PalmDubai.net have just taken the wraps off an upcoming Qool Labs QDA-Pocket PC, which I must admit, has a pretty neat list of specs. This tri-band GPRS/GSM Pocket PC runs Windows Mobile 2003 SE Phone Edition (Windows Mobile 5.0 is a possibility) and is fitted with a 2.8" LTPS LCD screen supporting 262K colours, a 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth, but sadly, no Wi-Fi. However, the company has put the idea of a miniSD Wi-Fi module on the table for inclusion with the device. Having said that, it's been claimed that two versions of this Pocket PC will be released - the latest having both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi integrated, so the need for that miniSD Wi-Fi module may be redundant. A whole bunch of software and native Java support will also be included once it ships.

Q3 is the release date for the first generation of the QDA-Pocket PC, with Q4 being the release date for the Wi-Fi version. Put Windows Mobile 5.0 on this device, and I can imagine it being one Qool contender in the Pocket PC Phone Edition market.

Yes, I was wondering about processor and RAM/ROM myself. My next PPC has to have at least a 520MHz processor and 128MB ROM. WiFi is an absolute necessity as well.

262k colors? Isn't this the first Win Mobile PPC w/262k colors? I'm surprised no one has commented about this? Anyone know if using more colors makes a program more CPU intensive?

No, it's not the first. The Dallab DP900 also has 262K colours. Plus there are a couple of others out there which just aren't springing to mind at the moment.

Looks nice - what format is that screen - it looks longer and narrower than the QVGA/VGA H/W ratio. Shame about the colour limitation assume for battery useage reasons?. The WiFi version should be pretty good. The big question - will you guys in the US actually see it?
