Default Business Week and IDSA Recognize the Lenovo ET960 for Design Excellence

http://images.businessweek.com/ss/0...5/source/23.htm

"Lenovo, the Chinese computer maker that recently acquired IBM's ThinkPad and ThinkCentre development team, has won a design award for its Windows Mobile smartphone. The annual international competition is sponsored by Business Week and run independently by the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA). Lenovo's Smartphone ET960, running Windows Mobile 2003 SE on a 312 MHz Intel PXA272 processor, garnered a bronze award in the Computer Equipment category. The IDSA judges praised Lenovo for 'attention to user ergonomics, integration of multiple technologies and features, and use of strong product design to help establish global identity.' Lenovo was one of only 148 winners in a field of 1,380 entries, it says."

As always, these awards are so subjective based on what judges see or want to see, but certainly, the Lenovo is a slick-looking device. One thing that I really liked about these awards is that there were actually multiple gold, silver, and bronze winners. So the award is more a reflection of a level-of-excellence as opposed to the all-encompassing ranking awards we always see. In any case, take a look at all the winners. There were actually 158 winners from what I can see (as opposed to the 148 reported) but only 19 of them fit under the "Computer Equipment" category and the Lenovo was the only PDA-type of device recognized... though I tell you what, (slightly off-topic) there was an NYSE Wireless Handheld Computer that really caught my eye! What do you guys think?

Is it a Pocket PC or a Smartphone? It says Pocket PC on it, so at first I thought it was a Pocket PC PA device. Since I'm not sure what Windows Mobile Smartphone looks like, I'm not sure.

I believe that phone will be banned from flights, due to the possibility of using it as a sharp weapon

It took a great bit of searching but I finally tracked down that the NYSE handheld runs some kind of "unspecified light-weight version of Microsoft Windows." Win CE?

And it only weighs 1.8 pounds!

I like the shoulder-strap concept though. I'd lug it around were it a Pocket PC with Dual-Slots and VGA.

No way in hell is this device getting on any of the US planes. I am sure the antena is too sharp looking for the not too sharp "airport security" staff.
