ok, this is great. Now how do we address the issue of persistant storage, without loosing significant space? Are they and others going to come out with hard drives, is this now the next move, I hope it is. 0X

Understandable if your device has 64MB ROM. I think a lot of X50v, hx4700 and high-end hx2700 users aren't worrying about loss of space to a huge degree since 128MB ROM is sufficient for standard use.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how LOOX 718/720 users fair from this upgrade. Will 64MB be enough? Maybe, maybe not - time will tell either way.

I have the Loox 720 and I don't think that will be a problem at all. Right now I hardly have anything installed to RAM (only the programs that tell me I have to). Everything else is installed in ROM and my SD card; and I use my CF card for Audio/Video/GPS/etc (and the SD card has quite a bit more programs installed to it than the ROM). I do this because I want as much free program RAM as I can get.

WM 5.0 will only make this better. If it handles programs how I think it will, then the start-up programs will start and be in RAM until the device is reset, turned to a completely off mode, or enough programs are run to fill up the RAM, then something will have to be pushed out of RAM (or maybe we'll get a blue screen of death as our PPC's crash).

If you're afraid of running out of persistent storage, then buy another bigger memory card. It is the RAM that we end users cannot expand.

Is there any GOOD reason why you should upgrade to WM5?

Persistent storage is the main one I guess.

Apart from the persistent storage feature, Windows Mobile 5.0 offers a lot of enhancements development-wise, which will be delivered to the consumer in the form of more advanced programs. I'm just waiting for Windows Mobile 5.0 to become "standard" and for a wave of new programs to start hitting the consumer market. There's still a few months before that will happen.
