Default Sportsdo Releases Five New PocketPC Applications

http://community.sportsdo.info/foru...6/ShowPost.aspx

If you into outdoor fitness and excercise activities and would love to use your technology to track and/or log your activity, then you may be interested in knowing about a company called Sportdo. Sportsdo is looking to leverage your GPS-enabled Pocket PC or Smartphone into a full tracking system for your outdoor exploits, whether it be cycling, biking, running, snowboarding, or skiing.

Think of these applications as an advanced digital pedometer, providing you with a full set of real-time metrics such as elapsed time, speed, gradient, calories burned, distance covered, and altitude. The Sportsdo products will also allow you to keep a log of your entire progression as you go, so you can review your progress afterwards. In fact, while you can view all this information real-time, I would think it would the bigger benefit would be for logging and post-event review (unless you like the idea of looking at your PPC while you're snowboarding). These applications don't come cheap at 30 GBP (~$55 USD). On the other hand, they are highly niche applications, so it would be difficult to get this functionality elsewhere. The full set of apps include Cycledo, Bikedo, Rundo, Snowdo, or Skido. Now with that said, I'm not sure what benefit you would get from buying more than one of these applications as each one seems to track the same metrics.

I could be wrong but I think this was already posted a little while ago. Even then I was still unclear exactly how these "software" products work -- won't you need some hardware attachments for your PDA to make it truly work (like a speedometer, heartbeat monitor, etc)??

It relies on GPS!

Actually, it was on Pocket PC Thoughts a week ago. News can get muddled up between us from time to time. :P

Yeah, sorry, that was my bad. I didn't notice the earlier post. (Darius, you're now forbidden to leave your computer in case I make another dupe assignment!)

While these seem neat, I think something like the Garmin ForeRunner or the Timex Speed and Distance work better. It is a little easier to cary and they are weather proof. You can also glance at them while your run/ride then upload them to your computer for review afterward.

I love mine, and I can't imagine my PPC taking the beating that my Timex takes.
