T-Mobile Germany Releases Mobile Finance Solution - StarMoney Mobile 2.0
"With StarMoney Mobile 2.0, T-Mobile Deutschland promises to turn the PDA or smartphone into a mobile finance center. The software allows users to check the current balance of bank accounts, inquiry current entries and make transfers between accounts. <...> The program offers a detailed overview of the status of all accounts including transaction details. Transactions can be prepared in offline mode by entering the information into a digital transfer form, and a data connection is established when the data is ready to be exchange with the banks' servers. An encryption system is used for the data transfer, and all data saved on the mobile phone is protected from unauthorized access."
Now this is something that I've been wishing I could do with my Pocket PC and/or mobile phone here in the US. T-Mobile Germany has released a solution that allows their smartphone / PPCPE users log into one of about a half-dozen participating banks to perform bank transactions. Security would obviously be of concern, but they've apparently addressed that to some extent with an encryption system and some means of access protection on the device. The T-Mobile page with all this information is located here, though it is all in German. What do you guys think? Would you welcome a similar solution here in the US? I'd imagine security would still be a major concern, even with the encryption and access protection there.

This software solution is not so new. I have the original banking software "finpocket" since February 2005 and I like it.

Starmoney is the same oem-software.

I would love to pay my bills and make transfers directly from my phone. I use MS Money now along with SPB Finance. Directly connecting to my band would be GREAT!

But why not just log into your bank account to do this without external software. I do this with TDCanadaTrust and it works wonderfully.

Great...maybe can they ask Paris Hilton to endorse their product if it comes to the States. After all, her private pictures were well protected on her T-Mobile device.
I'm not saying that there cannot be secure mobile devices that allow for financial exchange, but T-Mobile's promise to "turn the PDA or smartphone into a mobile finance center" scares me tremendously!

I anticipate that you are doing this - like me - by using a web access. Does anybody know if the PIE is as secure as the desktop version?

to log into the bank you need 128bit encryption which I would assume that PIE is doing if we are getting in. I used regking to make my PIE "behave" like an IE 6.0 and have no problems at all, I can log into both my business and personall accounts with 2 different banks..things are good.

Hey, the security standards for mobile banking are the same for homebanking with the pc.
Here in Germany I�m using HBCI-standard at home and mobile since many years.
In Germany we had in the 80s the btx-system and homebanking was the killerapplikation. Later cames the internet and now we can use mobilebanking.
I don�t now, how it is in the USA, but in Germany homebanking with a pc (or homecomputer or terminal in the 80s) has a long "tradition".
And it is safe!

The Portuguese bank Millennium BCP released about one year ago a Pocket PC application to manage the most common bank transaction like the ones mentioned above.
Using GPRS this is great because you �carry� the bank with you anywhere, anytime :lol: ...
