DivX 6 Offers Mobile Conversion
If you missed it, DivX 6 was released a day or two ago. Of relevance to Pocket PCs is the DivX Create Bundle which features an application called DivX Converter. It's a one step drag-and-click application which will convert MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX, XviD, DV, AVI, WMV and AVS files to a DivX file that works great in BetaPlayer (the size and quality of the re-encoded file depends on the profile you select - namely, "Home Theater", "High Definition", "Handheld", and "Portable"). The only problem with these profiles is that they're hard-coded to a specific resolution. "Handheld" is well-below QVGA, and "Portable" outputs at 640x480 (which is great for VGA Pocket PCs, but a little overkill for QVGA Pocket PCs).
Having said all that, DivX Converter probably wouldn't replace the venerable PocketDivXEncoder that so many of you use day after day (especially since the latter is free). But if you happen to own the DivX Create Bundle, then DivX Converter is a nifty thing to have.

Well PocketDivxEncoder doesn't do wmv, I don't think, so if this can do that then I would have some use for it.

Why on Earth would it do WMV? It's a DivX tool.

Dude that's like saying my Ferrari makes it for a useless off road vehicle. Apples and Oranges. But rest assured it makes for a lot of happy, happy people out there.

Yeah, try Betaplayer. It is fantastic. It plays DivX, XviD, MPG, WMA, MP3, and many other audio formats.

well, i just watched four episodes of Smallville (sorry, it does take centuries for some episodes/DVDs, etc. to get to Japan) as i took the trip from Tokyo to Okinawa, in BetaPlayer... it is JUST so amazing, especially with my Axim x50v... so amazing, that i contributed a small amount to the author as a means of gratitude...
