Default June 23rd: Verizon Wireless' Release Date for the i730?

http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000873046377/

That's what Engadget's reporting. Apparently, the Samsung i730 will be released to business channels on that date, with standard retail and internet channels following on July 7. No hints have yet been made of this device sporting the new Windows Mobile 5.0 platform, so for now, expect Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

Also no hints about what features Verizon will cripple upon release. Any takers on WiFi, Bluetooth DUN, Bluetooth OBEX??

Let's hope I'm wrong and they release it as Samsung designed it, as an ultimate communication device - whenever, wherever...

Default Crippled and Rumors...

The 730 will roll out on Mobile 03 SE. Samsung is working with Verizon for the software update. If you all will remeber Samsung through Verizon did release Updates to 03 for their previous Devices the i700 and i600.

As for crippling,... all I can say is whine much why don't you? The devices that Verizon employees are playing with have WiFi. And reps from both companies have said that there are no plans to restrict WiFi on this device.

As for Bluetooth, it will be restricted so get over it and just wait as I have no doubt someone will figure out how to fix it. Keeping in mind of course that any "FIX" will void your waranty.

forgive me for being lazy and not researching this myself, but...

what is the ROM/RAM arrangement of the 730? does it resemble older PPC memory configurations or the newer configurations (ie Axim, MDA4)? i think if the hardware allows it, Verizon will (eventually) upgrade this device.

Some of the follow-up comments at Engadget suggest it will have Wi-Fi, but then again, people have been saying that with every prerelease i730 post that's been made. I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer before we'll be able to know. I know it won't affect me since I live on the other side of the world, but I really feel for those of you who are worrying about getting the real deal in this phone.

128MB of flash memory, plus 64MB of RAM.

Darius has it right on the memory. And if My memory serves me well, I think that the 64 mb is NAND but I may be wrong. I do know that the device that I played with and those floating around the office have WiFi. As has been mentioned at other sites the WiFi will not function while ever of the other signals are going. Hence no WiFi-Bluetooth or EVDO-WiFi at the same time. All of that aside it is a beautiful device. I can't wait for mine to arrive.

NO, I won't get over it, and how about keeping the attacks to yourself. I wasn't whining - just bringing up the fact that Verizon has been known to remove useful features from their device. If you want to just "live" with it and accept it that's sure your right. Doesn't mean any of the rest of us have to agree.

I think a simple - I think it will ship with WiFi, and I wish it would have all of the Bluetooth profiles but it probably won't-- would have made your point without the need for bitter reply. Is there really a need to reply in such a tone to an honest question?

Problem is, no amount of "Whishing" or whatever will change the fact that most of the Bluetooth profiles are excluded on Verizon devices. Agree or not, for better or worse, Verizon has no intention on changing this policy. So it ammounts to "whining" whether you like the term or not. As for the rest of my post it was not bitter. I do find that posting about what may be perceived as "negative" practices by Verizon concerning their policies is a complete and total detriment to what is an Uber Device and so unlike any other Pocket PC currently out there. People have been bashing this device due to it's lack of this or that or because of crippling. And while I must admit I despise that practice in Verizon let's not let that take away from the glory of this device.

BTW I can CONFIRM that the device will roll out with WiFi. The limitations are posted earlier by myself.

Also as stated before I have no doubt that some intrepid indivdual or individuals will find away around the limitations/restrictions inflicted upon this device.

Good luck and happy buying.

If so the true " FIXERS " here need to get to work on it because we see the people at verizon arent the smartest in the world
