Default Slipstream Solutions Provides 1-Stop Page for ROM Updates

http://www.slipstreamsolutions.co.u...rom_updates.htm

As some of you may recall, we recently posted on a community thread discussing device updates. Well as our own Steve Cedrone noticed, Slipstream Solutions has created a 1-stop page for ROM updates related to several devices. Very cool indeed! Those of you who are less proactive about tracking manufacturer updates (such as I) may want to bookmark this page. Listed devices include:
  • Dell Axim X3, X30, X5, X50
  • HP iPAQ h4300 series, h5100series, h5500 series, h6315, h6340, h6365, hx2000 series, hx4700 series, rx3400 series, rx3700 series
  • i-mate Pocket PC Phone Edition, JAM, PDA2k, PDA2k EVDO, Smartphone, Smartphone2, SP3, SP3i
  • Motorola MPx220
  • Qtek Pocket PC 2020, S100, 9090 and Smartphone 8010, 8080
  • XDA I, II, IIs

Post-Edit: Due to, um, human-error, there may be a device or two missing from the list so be sure to check the Slipstream page.

Very nice indeed.

But being a paranoic person (who has a habit of only running executables from a credible source), how should I verify that the genuine-ness of the file that I am about to download ?

Example :
For XDA2s English ROM (v1.31.139) :
http://64.244.24.19/xda/Xda_IIs_v131139_upgrade.exe.

nslookup of slipstreamsolutions.co.uk returns :
216.167.114.177

Because they link directly to the OEM site. At least the HP ones did. The XDA2 links to http://www.sourceo2.com which is the website you'd normally get it from O2 on. Why they did not use the DNS name I have no idea.

You don't esp if its an IP address that comes back as owned by the ISP. If you are that paranoid then simply use this site as a reference and go to their main site when you see an update.

Not bad, but how often do they update?

I just upgraded my PDA2k to 1.40.00 WWE English, which was released a week or two ago.

Excellent idea. I wonder if the admins here at PPCT would be willing to set-up their own little "latest firmware" page...IMO you do have a larger audience. BTW, latest firmware for WWE i-mate JAM is actually 1.11.132.

Hey,
This is a great idea and I think members and non-members will enjoy this beautiful service. I am still using Dec. 2003 XDA II ROM. I have searched fruitlessly many times over looking for an upgrade but now I am going for the upgrade.
Thanks.
Kay.
