Default NVIDIA Launches International Mobile Gaming Awards

http://www.imgawards.com/

"NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, unveiled today the International Mobile Gaming (IMG) Awards, a new initiative to recognize and encourage 3D game development for mobile phone and handheld devices. The competition is the only one of its kind to reward excellence in innovation and design from all levels of mobile game developer, from professional development studios to enthusiastic gamers with imagination."

David Roman, Vice President of Corporate Marketing at NVIDIA, has recognised the infancy of mobile gaming, yet also recognises the potential of it. With the new Windows Mobile 5.0 platform supporting enhanced 3D content, and Pocket PCs such as the X50v surfacing, mobile 3D gaming can only go on up. NVIDIA want to support that by honouring developers who plan on making "3D gaming on mobile phones and handheld devices a reality". Entrants have until September 2005 to submit their initial proposals. Later in the month, the top twenty concepts will be short-listed and the respective developers will be given the opportunity to turn their concept into a working product by the end of January 2006. Four winners will finally be announced at the 3GSM World Congress with the awards fitting the following categories: Best Art, Best Gameplay, Best Technical Achievement and Grand Prix (Overall Winner). This is definitely an exciting initiative by NVIDIA to help increase the availability of visually-rich content for mobile devices. The full press release can be found here.

Perhaps. But competitions like this often spur on some really, really good content...

A lot of people are bursting to the seams with creativity, but with nowhere to vent it... And the prospect of big prizes can encourage such venting. Hang on, there is a big prize, isn't there?

"Amongst other prizes, the overall winner will receive a guaranteed contract with an operator and a publisher to market and sell the title."

I'm not sure what the so-called "other" prizes are, but I think the grand prize is great for any motivated game developer.

That prize would be amazing for any developer, its harder and harder for devver's to find good publishers these days.. The day I see games by well known publishers for my X50v will make me happy.

It's pretty sad how little notice the X50v's graphics capabilities have gotten. We haven't even gotten past the 'demo' stage, pretty much.

You could lay that down to the support. With Windows Mobile 5, we'll begin to see a ramp up in visually-rich content (with support for Direct3D Mobile) and when more and more 3D games are released, that's when the X50v (and future graphic-enhanced Pocket PCs) will shine.

Theres one game out that supports the enhanced graphics on the x50v now (Solterra) and another in the works (GeoRally EX by www.ionfx.com ). Slowly but surely... Just wait for teh next 2700g pda to come otu then there'll be real support.
