Getting Linux and a Pocket PC to Communicate
"Linux and Microsoft's Pocket PC platform have different document formats. Since there is no automatic file synchronization program for Linux comparable to Windows' ActiveSync, Pocket PC users have problems not only with disparate file formats, but even file transfer between the two platforms. But there are ways to get them to talk to each other. I tested four of them and found that two worked well for me -- which doesn't mean the others won't work for you, just that I had trouble using them with my hardware and software."
Basuki Winoto has a short article posted at NewsForge which looks at the troubles associated with Linux / Pocket PC communication. While there are a few tips listed in both the article and the follow-up comments, there's no doubt that there are plenty more out there. I know some of you are Linux and Pocket PC users and have probably looked high and low for possible ways in getting your trusty mobile device to happily communicate with your beloved penguin. So now's the time to share those tips, whether it be a simple cross-platform file compatibility tip or a cross-platform networking tip, every little bit would probably help new Linux / Pocket PC users get up and running without bursting too many arteries.

If there would be a possibility to sync PIM-Data, Linux would definitly be my choice nr. 1, but as long as I have to use Outlook and AS - no way. There are some sync tools, but I wasn't able to get even one of them running.

In the survey about "Keeping your #2 PocketPC, selling it, donating, etc..." I was disappointed to not see, "Experiment with it." or something. I've been writing some pocket PC code and my #2 PocketPC is my test device. I keep it clean and wholesome.
When I don't need it for any other reasons I go for the challenge of porting different Pocket Linux distros to it. It's fun, mind-numbing, infuriating, senseless, sadistic... Anyway, my #2 PDA usually is running Linux. In most cases getting Linux to work on a PDA is not for the faint hearted...
I want one of those Zaurus' by Sharp! Now that's a machine!!!

Better synching needed
I'm planning to replace my ageing PC with a Linux box soon. But I'd also like to see better syncing between Linux and PPC, including a Linux organizer that can read PPC organizer files and serve as a backup and editing tool, like Outlook manages now.
On the other hand, maybe what we need are PPCs that will run Linux docs. Or better yet, a PPC that IS your primary computer, and your Linux box allows you to access and work on it with a full keyboard and screen, as well as back it up.
