PDAgold Reviews the iPAQ hx2750
"Having reviewed several new iPAQs, I have grown used to their rather futuristic design. That is why the hx2750 did not appear so extravagant to me; on the contrary, I found it quite elegant. AT first sight, you will notice especially its rounded shapes, compact size, and a conspicuous plastic shield that protects the display, or, more precisely, the whole front panel. Unlike that in the HP iPAQ hx4700, this shield is attached at the top on serrated pivots on both sides and flips vertically, not horizontally. It is not possible to flip all the way to the back to the device but only a little more than 180 degrees. Nevertheless, the pivots enable positioning of the shield e.g. as a sun screen."
Out of all the new HP devices, I think the hx2750 is the strongest because it clearly has it's roots in the Jornada camp, which I always preferred to most of the iPAQ line. I've had a bit of hands on time with the hx2750, and I'm really impressed with the hardware. If it had a VGA screen, it would be even better of course. :mrgreen:

The hx2750 has really been riding under the radar for the most part. If I wasn't able to grab an Axim x50v for 100 bucks off I would likely own one of these. Like Jason I have always been a Jornada fan, and there is definitely a lot of Jornada blood in this one. It has taken HP awhile to find their PPC roots again but they seem to have done it here. :clap:

I played with one a few days ago at Fry's. It seems like a great unit. However, I have to agree with Jason about the lack of a VGA screen. I love my iPAQ 4700 and can't see myself ever going back to a QVGA device.

Size, memory, and speed dictated my purchase of a 2750. It had some "big" shoes to fill, considering it replaced my 4150 which still is the king of form factors.
I can live with the fact it's QVGA. If the battery life on the ASUS 730w was better, I might have gone with that unit. Overall, the 2750 is a great device.

I also think it's a great unit. HP has done a nice job of recreating the Jornada with it's flip cover, CF slot and durable look/feel. To a lot of us I think the durability issue is high on the list of wants. I know, I just retired my Jornada 548 for a hx4700 partly because of that. I decided on the 4700 because it wasn't any larger than what I already had and it puts me at the top of the PPC line-up for several more years. At these prices it's got to last. I might have chosen a hx2750 if it would have had VGA but I really like that 4" display and touch pad on the hx4700.
Long lived the flip cover!!

When I first bought a pocketpc I bought an Ipaq of some description. I immediately hated that stupid sideways plastic cover, and thought it was much too thick. I also hated the styling. I returned it the next day and bought a HP 568, which I loved due to the slimness and metal cover, allowing me to carry it in my pants without a case. I love the shape and styling of this unit. Again pity it has no VGA screen. I have a loox 720 now, and i really think they missed a trick by not at least leaving indentations where a flip cover could be attached.

I just don't get it? Why don't they include a removable flip lid like this on every PPC made? If you don't want it, fine just remove it, but there are millions of us who really like the idea. They aren't expensive to include. You can buy a cheap calculator at the dollar store with a lid on it. It's not like they haven't been told at least a billion times...I think I have said it at least that many myself. :grumble:

I've been a Jornada fan for many years, primarily because of the flip-top cover. Having dropped my PocketPC a few times on the Manufacturing concrete floor, that cover saved me having to buy a new one. However, there are several casings that you can now buy that also gives you a flip-top cover. So I no longer care much about having one on the base PocketPC 8) .

Actually, given that the flip only opens about 180 degrees, I'd prefer not to have it as long as I can purchase a case with a flip cover.
I currently have a Toshiba e805 with a Sena flipcover case. When I'm using the PPC, that cover is usually folded back completely.
I guess a vertical flip wouldn't be so bad, but the horizontal one would stink. This e805 is only my second PPC -- I had one of the original Compaq iPaq's (3630) and used the expansion case with the extra battery and the sideways flip cover. That cover had a flexible hinge that allowed it to fold all the way back.
I guess the point is, flip covers should probably be included for the many who like them, but should also be removable (easily without marring the look of the unit) for the few who don't want them.

I am another who really loved the Jornada line and am delighted to see HP moving back in that direction. I had both a 545 and a 568 (which I used for over two years) before moving on to a Toshiba e755. I love the Toshiba but the first thing I bought for it (even before it arrived) was a Pocket Solutions "cover up" Screen cover.
Now I am about to move on to a Dell x50v - the desire for VGA just got too much! This time the first thing I have bought is one of the clear "activecases"- again before the device even arrived - mainly because the screen cover flips all the way around.
For me a screen cover and preferably one that flips all the way round is pretty much essential.
