CNET: "Microsoft Smart Guy Takes On Smart-Phone Business"
"With Windows-powered mobile devices lagging behind the Palms and BlackBerrys of the world, Microsoft has brought an electrical engineer from China--a master of the strategy game Go--to put them back in the race...the first results of Zhang's efforts are scheduled to be unveiled at a conference May 9-10 in Las Vegas at which Microsoft plans to introduce the next version of its Windows Mobile software, code-named Magneto, with new productivity and multimedia features."
There isn't a whole lot of technical detail here, but it's an interesting read nevertheless.

Figures and speculation. One day Windows Mobile are in front, the next day, they're behind. Then they're in front again, then they're behind again.

Ok, so this Zen guy started working with Microsoft's Mobile Devices in January, just 3-4 months ago, and WM2005 is supposed to be full of exiting changes he has made? Does anyone else see a problem with that. Wouldn't WM2005 be locked as to what was in and what was out several months ago?....Mybe the Zen in his name actually means something.

It says he started at MS labs in 99 and came to Redmond in January 2004. I would assume he has extensive input/work in the mobile field since the article says they were talking to him in '03 to take over mobile then.

IIRC, Zhang actually began in January of 2004. That's a bit more time to influence product design.
