Take Note: PocketNotes 1.0
"PocketNotes is for Microsoft Windows-powered Pocket PCs. PocketNotes allows users to create notes and organize them by categories, subject and creation date. PocketNotes provides full Microsoft Outlook integration. From PocketNotes, user can export pocket notes to Microsoft Outlook Notes, and import Outlook notes as well, keeping the same data format, note color and categories."
While most of us have heard of Phatware's competing product, this offering entitled "PocketNotes 1.0 Professional" seems to do much the same functionality, at half the price. So if you're looking for Outlook sync-able note taking functionality, you may want to take a look.

DISCLAIMER: I don't know how to program, so excuse my ignorance.
I don't understand why all these type of programs: phat notes etc, do not allow people to hand write the notes on the pda side and then still sync them up into outlook.
Then in outlook let us add typed notes to that hand written note and sync up again.
It makes no sense to me.
Am I now understanding something?

I agree with thanos. I want a enhanced note editor that syncs seamlessly with outlook. I am using phatpad now but it would be nice to have something that I can use with outlook instead of a custom app.
This looks nice, however I don't want to be bothered having to "convert" my notes to outlook format.

I haven't really tried it, but I was hoping in the future something like PhatNotes Std Ed and PhatPad can be truly merged, with PhatPad handwritten (digital ink) notes combined into the PhatNotes Std Ed integration with Outlook Notes somehow?
As I recall biggest limitation about Outlook Notes is it doesn't support folder groupings or something? Also it'd be great if it supports multimedia so we can insert audio notes as well as digital ink notes and typed notes...
Then again I haven't tried MS OneNote or EverNote either, not sure how they can integrate into Outlook Notes...

The standard Notes app on the Pocket PC supports handwriting. Unfortunately, once a handwritten note gets synced to Outlook, it's essentially eye candy on the desktop. You can't edit it or anything iirc as it doesn't show up in Notes as a standard note but essentialy as an image. You can still modify it on the Pocket PC or delete it from the desktop but that's it.

While on the subject of Notes, I stumbled across something I wasn't aware of the other day that made them a little more useful for me. I've been using OneNote on my desktop and laptop for more than a year now and with the release of SP1 for it they introduced One-Way synchronization where you can have notes created on the Pocket PC sync with OneNote, you just can't go the other way  I recently phased out my desktop/laptop and moved over to a Tablet PC. What I didn't realize until 2 days ago when I stumbled upon it by accident, the notes created on my PocketPC ARE editable (is that a word?  ) and searchable within OneNote *IF* you are running Windows XP Tablet Edition. So although I can't just sync them right back to the PPC, this was a great plus as they are a lot more useful now and I've started using my PPC more again for Quick Notes instead of lugging around the bigger Tablet, since I know I can search on them, edit, etc. once I sync up with OneNote.
