Default Intermec Introduces the 730 I-Safe

http://www.intermec.com/eprise/main...oduct=CMPTR730i

"Continuing its long history of supporting key operations in hazardous environments, Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced the 730 I-Safe, a compact, Microsoft Windows Mobile-based mobile computer that is UL-certified to be safe for use in potentially explosive environments. The 730 I-Safe allows companies in industries such as pharmaceutical and petrochemical to standardize on one computing platform for both hazardous and non-hazardous environments, simplifying device management and lowering the total cost of ownership."

The Intermec 730 I-Safe has been UL-certified for safe use in hazardous environments. This Windows Mobile device sports an Intel PXA255 400MHz processor, 64MB ROM, 64MB RAM, a 3.5" QVGA screen, integrated Wi-Fi, integrated Bluetooth, infrared, and an SD slot. At 493g, it's definitely not considered light, but bear in mind that this device is not targeted for general consumer use. For those interested in reading the press release, click here. Otherwise, for more information on the product, visit the Intermec 730 I-Safe webpage.

Rugged pocket pcs, cool :werenotworthy: If I worked on an oil rig, this would definitely be a worthy option.

Ahhhh! Earlier this afternoon my PDA2k (MDA III) dropped on the concrete sidewalk (for the umpteenth time) and the battery, stylus, and SD card flew out again.

When I put everything back I found the device had hard reset as it's wont to doing, and I have to wait until I get home tonight before I can restore from a previous Sprite backup (and pray there was no permanent damage)! The shell itself ain't pretty to look at by this point...

I need a sturdier Pocket PC like the Symbols, Intermecs, Panasonics, etc, or I guess bite the bullet and get a wrap-around leather/aluminum case. I've been lucky none of the falls have landed on the screen (ironically I have BoxWave/PPCTechs screen protectors still sitting unopened on my desk all this time).

I really miss the rubber handgrips on my old iPAQ 2210. The PDA2k is always on the verge of slipping from my hand because I tend to maintain a light grip...
