Default The Skinnable iMate JAM

http://www.ppcsg.com/forums/viewtop...=asc&highlight=

Anyone own an iMate JAM and are looking at physical protection options? Or perhaps you're interested in customizing the look of it a little bit more. If either situation applies, you'll want to take a look at what PPCSG.com moderator Don Marcaroni has done in skinning his iMate. It's very sleek-looking and it would appear this could help scratch-proof your iMate device as well, though I'd venture to guess it won't cover you in the event your device gets dropped from too far above the ground.

I don't suppose he's willing to do the mod for others (for a fee)?

That looks great, and without having to buy an O2...

What I'm not sure about, the posts at PPSG keeps referring to the device being the O2 Mini, but isn't the O2 device already black in color? I thought at first this was referring to an i-mate JAM skinned to look like the O2 in color...

Hi

Different devices you are talking about. The black one is XDAIIs and Xphone2. You can refer to this website. The left one is mini.

Oh my mistake, thanks for the clarification.

I must've been thinking of the Orange unit:

Though that one looks more dark grey than true black...

Hi there all, Don Marcaroni here from PPCSG (not Dan Marcaroni). Just got a heads up from a fellow ppcsger that you all liked my work. Glad you all like it... ha ha... never knew I could achieve "International fame"!

No problem Ekkie! and thanks for the publicity... ha ha! even though I'm not doing this for profit. I do have some new ideas which I hope to work on soon, but in the meantime, just to tide you guys over, here are some tips:

The material used is basically a vinyl adhesive sticker. There are different kinds. My first attempt made use of wall paper. The problem with that was it was thicker and therefore harder to stretch and therefore lead to some creases near the edges... What I did like about wallpaper though was there's a wide range of textures to choose from (there was a funky "wood finishing" I was tempted to try too!)

My second attempt (and what you see now) made use of vinyl decal stickers (the kind used by people to dress up their cars). While not as thick as wallpaper, it's pretty durable stuff (especially since it's made to withstand 3-5 years of rain and other abuses from the weather). Currently, this is what I would recommend you to use.

The third option (which I have not tried, though I suspect it to be just as good as the second) is to use the vinyl stickers which people use to mod their xbox and playstation 2 consoles (just do a search, there are tons on the web).

I'm looking into obtaining some white (car) decals so that I can print my own designs for future versions of the skin. But currently my magician/ jam/ mini is in the workshop for some repairs (non-modding related, sd card slot problem).

So if anybody has any questions on how to make this work, feel free to ask.
