Default The Claviature Ergonomic Keyboard: Pressing the Right Buttons?

http://www.microth.com/claviature/

"The Claviature Ergonomic Layouts provides a key arrangement optimized for on-screen keyboards and pen input in different languages. They are computer designed to minimize input time using Fitt's law describing efficiency of keyboard depending on letter pair frequencies in different languages and distances between them. Advanced mathematical methods were used to calculate optimal keyboard layouts. Version 1.2 of Claviature for Pocket PC [includes] more than 80 national layouts - more than any other SIP. [The] main feature of version 1.2 is support of Ergonomic Layouts for English, Sapnish, German, French and Italian languages."

Advanced mathematical methods? Like, algorithms and stuff? Sweet. Unfortunately, it looks like the marriage of science and design is going as well as it usually does. I'm not in a position to judge the functionality of this SIP, so I'll have to ask YOU, dear reader, to weigh in with your opinion. Speak up if you've used this, or even if you just have an opinion. Will the PMYLDX key layout take the world by storm? Oh, and it's only $14.95 at Handango. [Affiliate] That is all.

Yes I'm sure all the letters were scrambled using high level math. So when you are looking for the letter "f" and it isn't where it has been for your life span you can thank the high level math functions that are sure to give you Fitts at that point.

I'm kinda curious as to why it looks so different from the Fitaly layout, which I think also made use of Fitt's analysis of letter pairs.

I'm kinda curious as to where the space bar is. . .

Edit: ah - sorted.
This keyboard relies entirely on gestures. each block is one key, with a tap drag to hit the letter.

to type the letter a, tap the key:

y l
r a

and drag to the lower-right.

You can also set global gestures, so you can set for all keys:
drag to the right = 'insert a space'

or you can store commonly used phrases, like:
drag to the top = "I think I will stick with Fitaly"

:devilboy:

Sure will - but only after we all learn a new way to read

I really wonder why these products are ever developed in the first place... it's as useful as toilet paper that can be used from both sides

Fitaly layout is not optimal, it's just more known. There are many other layouts which are more optimal than Fitaly: Atomic, OPTI, etc... Claviature's travel distance is about 10% less comparing to Fitaly.

It's a click at 3rd button at bottom row, or gesture to right at any place. So you can enter it at any place.
