Windows Mobile Always-Up-To-Date Sync With Exchange 2003
"Users of AUTD ActiveSync compatible devices that also have their own Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 can benefit of an always-on approach for messaging. This feature enables users to automatically receive new messages when they arrive on their Inbox. It feels in many ways similar to the Blackberry experience, but with some subtle differences...In the rest of this article I am going to explore some of the configuration settings and problems I found while configuring my own AUTD ActiveSync platform. First of all we need to understand how this feature works."
Mauricio's written a fantastic how-to article on Exchange 2003 "push-like" functionality -- it's clearly written, easy to understand, and links to some key Microsoft Knowledgebase Articles. I've been meaning to set this up for some time, and now I think I'm going to try it. I'll report back on my experiences (as soon as I find a few minutes to do it, that is). 8)

AUTD ActiveSync compatible devices
Great article Janek!
For those of us who don't have a Pocket PC Phone Edition or Smartphone....Are Wi-Fi equipped PDAs considered AUTD ActiveSync compatible devices?
I have a HP 4150 and my company is about to migrate to a new exchange server and Outlook Web Access. It would be awesome to be able to sync via the Internet from any hotspot!
Thanks!

They're not AUTD, no, but you can set them up for manual or scheduled Server Activesyncs.

Will this also work with an older XDA running PPC2002?

It should work fine. The Always Up To Date (AUTD) feature is a little dependant on whether your provider allows you to receive SMS messages for a reasonable cost...

I have a couple of questions if anyone can help:
- Are any of the outsourced Exchange hosting providers willing to set this up for you (as an individual customer)? Like MailStreet, eOutlook, ASP-One, 1and1, etc.
- Is there a list somewhere of major US cell providers and whether they allow FREE inbound SMS messages (or offer unlimited inbound SMS for a reasonable flat rate)? I'm specifically interested in Cingular/ATTWS and T-Mobile (and I'm always forgetting this)...

How about the hosted Exchange account that i-mate gives its Pocket PC users for free for the first year (10MB space) -- I'd imagine it would especially make sense for them to support AUTD?

Argh the site looked very promising at first glance and I'd bookmarked it intending to check it out when I had time, then completely forgot about it until a new thread today reminded me!
This provider looks great with unbelievable pricing and I assume Jason recommends it because it's reliable and feature-rich? Thanks much I appreciate the tip! Just wish I could've known about it months ago. I thought I'd heard about all the major providers but I'd never heard of this one and it came as a surprise...
Perhaps it would be a great idea if Jason or the PPCThoughts guys write it up or do comparison or something.

It's on my list of things to do, but yes, I recommend them highly. :-)
