Size Matters: hw6500 Sizes up?
Ubergizmo has an interesting article that seeks to find the size information on the hw6500 by using known sizes from other devices (i.e. the Treo 650, Ipaq 4355). The math looks reasonable, and if their calculations are correct, this thing isn't going to be too much bigger than other devices in its class at 2.9" wide and 4.95" High. Comparing that to the 6315 at 2.9" wide and 4.6" High, we can see its still fairly pocketable.
As posted here before, the specs on this thing look pretty good. I don't know if its good enough to sacrifice WiFi for GPS, but pretty good all the same. With rumors flying that it may be around as early as April 2005, this year may be another year we spend wondering about HP's new IPaq Phone

Yikes, it isn't as small as I thought it'd be!
It'd be nice if it came in different versions. BT only, BT+GPS, BT+Wifi.. I guess they thought it won't be worth the hassle of doing that.

Yijkstra!
8O That looks real big. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if the calculations were wrong, no way the 650 could be that much smaller in comparison. Further, Mr. 650 has a 320x320 and how much you wanna bet that big chunker won't have a 1900mah battery?
i love my 650. Still, I would give it up for a wmobile device that will offer me the same in form factor, battery life, performance and connectivity.

Interesting, this must be the first SQUARE-SCREEN Pocket PC on the market.
The screen should be 240x240 (or maybe 480x480 if it is hi-res).
I wonder how many Pocket PC apps will break with the SQUARE SCREEN
There are rumor that the iPAQ hw6500 will have the Intel 2700G video accelerator chip. This would make sense only if the display is 480x480, and it will allow good video performances with little battery use, as this chip uses less power than the CPU.

Well, I own a 4355. If I imagine chopping off about an inch from the top, I think I can picture the size of the 6500. The 4355 isn't too bad--the screen is huge, and it's really light for its dimensions. But add a case to the thing, and it becomes enormous.
Neither screen is any good: the 650's screen is tiny, and the 6500's 240x240 resolution is embarrassing and appauling. Again, designs that come close, but leave alot to be desired.
And NO WIFI? I'll pass...

Do you know for sure that the 6500 resolution is 240x240 ? it could very well be 480x480.

No, but considering the PocketPC manufacturers fear of putting high end features into their smartphones, I would be shocked if this were a "VGA" screen. Especially HP, who seems determined to not have one PDA that is "fully" loaded with all the top features. Every HP device is missing something that prevents it from being "the best". The 4700 has everything but 128MB of memory, those new 2000 series have everything but VGA, etc...

That picture does NOT represent the real size of the device. The size of it is actually almost the same as the 6300 series iPAQ. I have a number of pics of the 6315 next to my Treo 600 and the size difference is not as great as is depicted in this photoshop.

HP just doesn't get it. While other companies are releasing PPC phone edition devices with the form factor of a 4100 series, HP insists on releasing portable "bricks" because everyone carries their PPC in a bag or purse.
