Default The Gadgeteer Reviews Innopocket's hx4700 Magnesium Case

http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/innopo...700-review.html

"Used to be, when you'd think of metal PDA cases, the first company that came to mind would be RhinoSkin with their Titanium tank like cases. Unfortunately, they quit making the Ti cases awhile ago and now sell leather and aluminum PDA protection instead. Even though they moved on to aluminum, the first company that I think of now when I think of metal PDA cases, is Innopocket. They've been around since 2000 and produce aircraft grade aluminum cases for PDAs, digital audio players, mobile phones and digital cameras. Well guess what? Innopocket is now going to be known as the first company to produce a PDA case made of injection molded Magnesium with the Magnum case made specifically for the HP hx4700 iPAQ Pocket PC."

I like unobtrusive, flip-over-the-top cases, so I was pleasantly surprised by the styling of the case in Julie's review. Make no mistake about it, it's no lightweight... but if you want a distinctive hard case for your iPAQ hx4700 this might be worth checking out.

Great review and a very interesting case. I am almost convinced to order one, but I have one concern:

HP iPaq hx4700 can get noticeably warm when using Wi-Fi or performing other CPU intensive operations for a longer period of time. I therefore wonder if the fact that it would be encased in Magnesium case could hinder heat dissipation and have a negative impact on the device's lifespan...

Cheers,

Interesting that the reviewer neglects to mention that Rhinoskin's Titanium cases were actually made by Innopocket.... but that's a small nit-pick.

I wonder about the decision to use Magnesium rather thn Titanium.... I personally like the Titanium cases and would have to see a Mag case to know for sure....

When can I have one for the Dell X50v?????

Other than the latch issue, if I had a hx4700, I'd go for this case!

It's interesting to find out who the actual manufacturer is for various cases?

I was just looking into the aluminum flip case for the i-mate PDA2k / Qtek 9090 / O2 XDA IIs / Blue Angel, and I assume these two are completely identical?

(Proporta) http://www.proporta.com/F02/PPF02P05...amp;t_mode=des

(Innopocket) http://www.innopocket.com/web/showPr...ail.asp?ID=126

Who's the actual manufacturer in this case? Is it some unknown 3rd-party OEM?

^ Heh I was actually referring to the two identical aluminum cases for the PDA2k (not the new magnesium case). I was just wondering if Proporta or Innopocket or a 3rd-party is the actual manufacturer of the aluminum case. I seem to hear the name Proporta more often than Innopocket, for some reason...

Whoops! ops:

fwiw, my titanium case says it's an innopocket. I forget what it was marketed as originally on the mobileplanet site (different than it is now at any rate), but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and saw the innopocket logo on it. I dunno if this magnesium case is the same or different.

I'd been considering this, but people over at Brighthand that have gotten it say that none of the new, wider, connectors that seem to be on all accessories lately will fit. Some people have done their own alterations, but it seems like pretty poor planning by innopocket. Even the new HP branded accessories have the wider connectors.
